in his 2000 tj with the dana 44... i havent looked at it yet but since i am goin to be fixing it, isnt there a new "locker" that you can load into a carrier that had trac lock? this might be the way to go, for cheapness......

Is he wanting to put this in the rear?
I destroyed and ez-locker in the rear in less then 45min of playing. Spend the money and get a detroit. Unless he's really not that hard on it.

I had a lock rite in the rear of my YJ, I had some problems with it as well. No, I didn't blow it up on the trail, but on the street there are "ramdom locker explosions" that throw you into the lane of oncoming traffic. The detroit handles alot better, there are still locker explosions, but NO WHERE near as bad as the loch rite. And from the sound of it, your buddy bashes his rig pretty hard to break the freakin spiders. So get a good locker. Or spool it.

Dont waste your time with those cheap ass lockers. Just do it once, do it right buy a Detroit or a spool :D Save you lots of time and money in the long run.

Im with rockbuggy on this one. I love my detroit, but with that said, my 9" rear will be spooled, only because its cheaper and I don't give a flyin rat crap about road manners :D

i have had great luck with lockrites, good cheap junk.

spider gears in his dana44, those tjs only came with trac locks, so there wouldn't be any spider gears, plus, i don't think you can use a drop in locker with a trac lok carrier, gotta gave a whole new carrier.

Newbie  You don't have to have a whole new carrier with the no slip version that was MADE for the tracloc carrier.. get your facts straight before you start spewing crap as facts.

What he said...

And yes they do have spider gears.

And yes you could get the D44 without the Wack-Lock

ok your pretty much....... um no your wrong on all counts.... trac lock does have spider gears  trac lock is a series of clutches inside the carrier.... have you ever had a rearend apart?

and as just stated above, there IS a locker that you CAN load into the trac loc carrier....

well after some hard thought, my bro decided he couldnt afford to go with new gears and lockers.... just married and in search for house....

so, he is getting all new bearings and seals, and a new trac loc, he had blown the clutches apart, and took the spiders too..... this whole deal will be bout 350 total vs 100 to 1200$ for the other route.......

i would of loved to see him run detroit, being that i run em at both ends, detroits are my first choice.........the only way id do anything else is spool due to the fact i can run 40 spline with a spool :D

If he has saved up 350.00 allready save another 200.00 and go with the Detroit.
Whatever you do do not use an easeylocker I got one trip on it and it stripped the side gears right off of it, The shop where I bought it from did not sell another one because of all the problems with them.
Maybey switch to an open carrier with a Lockrite , the open ones have a bitt more steel to them then the trac lock carrier

This is all well and good, but what you fail to remember is that most people don't setup thier own gears, and since a detroit requires a new gear setup, he would be out about ANOTHER 250 bucks just in labor. And... If he ever wanted to regear for bigger tires, he'd have to do it all over again. So... maybe the no slip is his best bet:question: I only say that because the 350 he has to spend on some sort of locking diff, if he decided on a detroit, would turn into about 800... and that doesnt include new gears to regear if he wanted.

exactly , plus if he wanted to regear in the futre, he would need a new detroit to accept the numerically higher ratio.....
