I recived a tow bar from my father to tow my YJ behind my Tahoe. Setting up the tow bar lines up with the center of my shackles. I have Conver shackles. I can make a simple bracket that will bolt through the shackle parrallel to the bushing bolts and behind the chanal iron on the Confer's. Has only one ever tried this? or do you have any other ideas?

:rolleyes: Ummm...are you talking about fabbing a tow shackle? Currie along with some others make a shackle that is setup for use with a towbar. Just copy it if it will work.

I fab'd some shackles for my 2A that were 5 " with tubing welded between the 1/4" plate. the tubing was for a 3/8" pin and snap ring used for slide in hitches. worked great, and it was easy to take off. And it didn't leave any stuff to hit your knee on. I recently went to a SOA/reversal so I am not using the shackles anymore.

why not do it the right way and hook it to the bumper? a drop hitch for the truck doesnt cost to much and it will be usefull in the future i'm sure

it is more stable if you use the shackles to tow from. my roommate used to tow his from the bumper and it was kinda squirly. i think this was due to the fact that jeep bumpers are not the most solid bumpers i have seen. when he moved the connection to the shackels it wa a lot easier to tow with

I just wouldnt want to be pulling on a jeep from somwhere its not designed to be pulled on. I've seen jep front shackle mounts and I wouldnt trust them to hold my springs on let alone pull from!
