Yesterday while cruising up to Sugar Bowl for some boarding I saw a sign to the Sierra Discovery trail off of HWY20.

Does anyone have some info on this trail?

TIA.

 The sign read "Sierra discovery trail" on the side of HWY20. I think it was near bowman lake or something like that.

Hmmm...

I'm pretty sure this was a 4x4 trail. I've seen rigs coming out of that road last summer but didn't notice the sign before.

when you leave highway 20 and head up the bowman lake road there is a foot trail maintained by PG&E that identifies the various trees and plants. There is a little information booth at the beginning of the trail as well. It has some kind of "school" type name, but I can't remember if it's called the discovery trail or not.

There used to be a trail to Blue lake, but they leveled the whole area last year...maybe this is what you were thinking of???

SIERRA DISCOVERY TRAIL: Hwy. 20 out of Nevada City to Bowman Lake Road. PG&E community service project, less than one-mile loop, interpretive signs, waterfall, restrooms, picnic area with
barbecue on Bear River.

If your heading north on bowman its on the left. Its a trail for school kids.

Thanx guys.

I wonder what or where those rigs I saw last summer heading back from the rubithon were coming from though? It sure looked like they had just come from some wheelin. Maybe they were just camping and fishing. :usa:

One of the ways back to civilization from meadow lake ( north end of fordyce trail ) brings you out right there. You head towards Jackson meadows, then go around the north side of bowman lake and then come out on this road.

Thats how I go home from sierra trek. I'd rather spend an couple of hours on a bumpy dirt road than a couple of hours on I-80 with "hot august nights" traffic heading back to the valley.

There's not much other "great wheeling" back there, but alot of dirt road type stuff.
