: Troublesome bushing removal

I am replacing all my bushing on my truck with polyurethane ones and I am having alot of trouble getting the lower control arm bushings out. I have tried almost everything got one out in about an hour! I don't have a hydraulic press and I don't want to remove the control arm. Do they make a special tool for this? I have been using a c-clamp to act like a press but its a pain. Will the upper control arm bushings, rear leaf spring and shackle bushings be just as hard to remove?

No they don't make a special tool. The best thing is to take it off and press them out. In the past I have used a torch to melt/burn them out. Yes, If they are factory bushings they will be a BITCH to get out.....especially if the bolts are rusted in the sleeves.. When you put "your" bushings in make sure to greese/silicone them so you won't have this problem ever again;)

The shakle and rear spring bushing are also a PITA I changed mine last year, if they don't come out relatively easily take a troch to them and melt them out. Good luck! :D

Whatever you do, do not apply heat to the bushings in the leaf springs, heat will damage the temper of the spring and cause the springs to sag. It will work for your A-frame bushings but not your leaf springs. And only to complicate things, if you have eurothane bushings that have the outer steel shell then you would still need to remove the old shells anyway so you would be wasting time trying to only remove the rubber from them.

Damage the temper huh......It's not like it's glowing red when doing this.... Yes you do have the bushing "shell" to get.....get a sawsall or chisel and bend/cut it out....all done:p :p :D
