Just wonder what you guys thing about using a 700r4 for off road use. I would plan on it having a full reverse manual valve body on it, so shifting from reverse to 1st would be quick, and having compresion braking. I would think this would be a pretty strong setup, and allow for good smooth handling offroad with the binifit of the overdrive for the highway use. It would go in a XJ running on 38's. This is just an idea for the future so all opinions are welcome. Also a Artcarr shifter would go along with it. Thanks for the help.

they are a decent transmission, they are not the strongest, but they have a lower first gear (3.06) compared to other popular gm autos, depending on how much horsepower your running and tires you may want to beef it up a little, i would recomend getting one from after 87 but before 91? i think, before 87 there were still some bugs being worked out and some weak parts, and after 91 or somewhere around there somebody help me out here, they changed to a higher first gear. for a rig that is going to see highway use and not get beat on too bad i would definately recomend it.
