I have a 76 fj40 4 speed trans and transfer case still bolted together. It has about 200K on them..I put in a sm420 and someone wants to buy it but I have no clue what its worth..It seems the 3 speeds are going for around $400.00 for both. What do you think is fair value.

It all depends on how bad someone wants it, but I've seen 'Cruiser four speed trannys alone go for as much as $6-700. Seemed a bit excessive to me though. I'd say $600 for the tranny and transfer would probably be in the ball park.

Probably not too much of a demand for those. You can pick up SM465 mated to 205 for about $300-$400. I would imagine around the same or less...:skull:

3sp's have no value used.

I advise to build a catapult and see how far you can launch it. Record is 178' so far (no explosives allowed, must be all mechanical pull back).

Stay clear, that 45 pound tranny could hurt if it knocked you right in the head ...or leg...or big toe.

I sold a very nice 4-speed tranny with t-case, sans some of the parking brake assembly for $325 last year. Parts were from a 78 or 79 FJ40. Prices are anywhere from $300 to $500 locally when available (which is rare in Florida).

Seems as though I've seen quite a few posted on the web in the last year in the $600 plus range. At those prices, they seem to stay for sale for a long time.

At 200,000 + miles I would'nt ask for too much, unless you've rebuilt the t-case and verified output shaft condition on the transmission.

Just my .02 cents. Flame away...

Bill (who can't find an affordable 70's 3-speed case) :flipoff2:
