Will a four speed t-case work? Do I need to change to a three speed shaft or can a make the 4 speed tcase work with the wardens adapter? Thanks, I hate the smell of clutchs on winch hill 5. Thanks <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

you will need the conversion gear from MAF (ouch) or someone else. It is a gear that is designed to replace the primary drive gear in the tcase. Basically it allows a ten spline input shaft in the 4 speed case...
Or you could get the AA adapter that takes care of the problem by using an adapter. they would probably come out equal in price in the end...

Toyota made a 16 tooth spline input gear to adapt the early 4 sp to the 3 speed transfer case, but I have never heard of anyone that makes a 10 spline input gear (ie SM420) for the 4 speed transfer case.

Jason M is right you need to buy a gear w/the 10spline- I'm running the setup you are talking about ie. plate adapter w/10spline gear to my 4-speed transfer case.
Gear cost $150 through Classic Cruiser.
Note; look before you leap , lots of options out there.
