I have a Ramsey winch that has only been used a few times and now it wont work. When you push the remote it just clicks. I dont know much about winches so any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the solenoid.

Was it an REP 8K? Those aren't really up to the quality of the rest of the Ramsey winches...

Just replace the solenoid.

Well, since you are asking without looking into it, I will have to assume you are not familiar enough with electricial parts to run down the problem yourself. That being the case, I would suggest having a buddy who open up the solenoid box and see where the electricity stops.

It may be the solenoids, or it may be that you have submerged the winch motor and it is froze up.

Try jumping the pins at the winch (where the controller plugs in) with a screwdrtiver, see if that cures it. If so, you probably need to "spread" the pins a bit (the controller may not be making good contact)

Should have bought a Warn you cheap:rainbow:

Its most likely the solenoids are bad

Be shure to DISENGAGE the thing FIRST.

My warn did the same thing... (hs9500i). It clicked after some very abusive use. (powering in and out for 60 minutes straight).

We thought it was solenoids, but they seemed to work so we replaced them all. It still didn't work. Then I discovered it was the motor. replaced it and winch works great again. (well... after replacing a burnt up brake.)

note to you guys... when the winch manufacturer gives you a cycle time, follow it. :D

Something else you might want to check.. the power lines coming off the winch and hooked at the battery. make sure all those connections are solid and no dirt/corrosion. (hopefully you grounded your winch straight back to the battery.)

Funny thing is.. when my winch was done in... single yellow top. Charging system never dipped below 10v. (that was watched closely) But not need to worry much about that again.. got a 120A altenator and 2 yellow tops. :D

After talking to a Warn rep. the demise my hs9500i faced, an 8274-50 woulda met the same fate.

Have had the same problem on my Ramsey 9000x...make sure to check the connections at the solenoid box as well as the battery and the remote control .I would have gotten another 8274 but the deal involved the guy giving ME money to trade a free winch(which would'nt fit my front end anyway)for his Ramsey.Next time though........

KillerXJ, are you going to post again?

I have had my PP9 apart a time or two, if you post what you have tried I bet we can help.

Don't know which Ramsey he has but that 'clicking' prob happened to a friend of mine while out on the trail. He removed the 4 allen screws from the Pro9500 selonoid cover and had it fixed in 5 minutes....one of the copper strips had cracked and just needed to be reseated and re-bolted down. Just a quality control issue and is easily fixed.

Probably not your deal, but I have been running the Ramsey Platinums since they came out and I have never come across a Ramsey that keeps a good connection between remote and solenoid connection. Finally had to start hard wiring them. Problem fixed. Just something to watch for.
