One looks like and oil seal and the other looks like a gasket more than a seal.

That big black gasket/seal I am guessing is for near the base of the torque tube shown in the picture and the oil seal in probally for near the top of the tube/driveshaft.

I didn't realise they showed the pics on thier site of the pinion conversion for the 406. As far as I know there is also no support bearing added to the torque tube for the end of the pinion.

Did you try to call wolfgang and find out?

If he does read this I would like more info as well to add to the 406 page I am trying to build.

I'm not sure about Wolfgang's, but our 406 pinion conversion DOES add a 3rd bearing to the pinion. Pix are on the website.

HaWiLuVer, if you read this, gimme a call on Monday. I want to talk to you about yours.

I PM`d you !

The black seal is the yoke seal and the other seal is the seal that the 406 uses to seal the pinion against the torque tube ! We use both seals because the stock one does not seal very well.
On a 406 axle the upper pinion bearing is supported by the torque tube ! So on the pinion conversion you got a bearing seat in the seal housing !

Sapper

What informations do you need ??

You're right. Web site maintainers...

Try this:

These pinion conversions went on Robb's red FJ-45 TLC that everybody loves.

Rob what does the pinion lenght equal for your conversion?

That really looks like beef.....what size joint is that for on the conversion.

If someone was going to get this done they would need the pinion, driveshaft and torque tube to be sent to you to do this? Or would you need the entire housing?

If you remove the pinion like shown in those pictures how hard would it be to set it back up in the housing?

Just trying to get as much info on these axles for everyone as they seem to be gaining in popluarity but there is so little info out there for people. I am hoping to add it all to a 406 "bible" and any pictures and info credit will be paid where credit is due.

And ROB's FJ45 was a work of art.... I just wish I took more pictures of it....

Sapper:

I'll measure up the ones we're finishing right now.

That U-joint flange yoke is for a 1350. It's standard spicer stuff, and a 1310 or 1410 can be used in place of it.

You're correct on what we need for the conversion. You should keep and mark the shims between the carrier and pinion housings, though. They set the pinion depth so are pretty important.

The pictures show how it's sent back to you - read to drop back on. The only "hard" part to drop it back on is to make sure you get it right side up - the breather and the pinion bearing casting will orient that for you.
