What's the difference in the axle shaft's diameter between these two?
I'm swapping in a stock HP D44 in place of my built stock D44 and I'm wondering if I'm going to be in good shape for a while with the stock axles in the new HP???

thanks

No difference in size.

30 spline 1.31" diameter for all stock Dana 44s (may be some exceptions in REALLY old trucks, like 60s and older)

the U-joint is usually the weak link and can be of different sizes, the main ones being 260x joints, and 297x joints (recently replaced by the 760x) I *think* EBs all came with the weaker 260x joints.

Also the stock axleshafts had thicker steel around the ears.

Thanks for the clarification guys - I was under the impression they were a little more HD than the narrow track 44's.

are you talking about front or rear axles? HP only came in the front. Narrow track usually refers to a CJ rear. Cj rear axles (except the 86) have smaller axles (1.27 I think) then most common 44's.

no it's a front - I just said widetrack vs narrow track to clarify between the HP and the Stock D44 out of my Bronco.
