Well, a friend of mine called last night. He's got a motor to sell me....and while it's an incredible price, I just want to know if there is anything to watch out for with this one...
1991 Chevy fullsize van, 350 TBI...complete, AFAIK. I get the whole van for $200. :D
(Same guy who sold me a SM465 with the 203 adapter on it for $40)
Anything to watch for on this vintage motor? Mileage is unknown at this time...we are in the middle of phone tag....

there was a detailed write up my last Toyota Trails mag that told all the specs and pro's and cons of these motors and what to look for.
You might find that article published online or maybe one of the motorheads heads here read it in more detail than I did:D

Ask all you want now...it's been purchased!
Picking it up tomorrow morning..."details" are, 1991 Chev conversion van, trashed 700R, interior in rough shape, starts/runs great, 190k on the ticker. He wants the tranny back for a core (and I have no use for it) but the balance is mine....only real decision now is whether or not to hook up the rear AC unit in my FJ40! lol
Wonder what the rear axle is.....hhhmmmmm

the tbi motors seem to have the best luck for swaping. the harness is pretty straight forward. i swaped one in my 85 3/4 sub. way better than the quad 350 it had before. i know a guy that does the harness here locally for about 200. but there are lots of places that have them now. sounds like you scored pretty good. these motors go over 200k easy. mike

Sounds like a great score. The TBI motors Are super simple to wire, especially since you got the stock wiring harness with it. Just use the whole motor harness, including the "fuse and relay center", and you'll have it done in a couple days.
