I've read the tube pipe ect search stuff but never seen this brought up

1.660" (just bigger than 1 5/8") and 1.9" handrail tube (this is what my steel cat. calls it. Its continous or electric resistance welded. it comes in .100 or .125 wall thickness
would this be addiquate to build a cage exo or enternal.
From the stuff we build out of it I know it'll take the abuse just currious to see what you guys think.

I've got dies for my bender (dinosour super tube bender) and for my rolling machine so it be nice to use.
thanks guys just trying to watch out for my safety.

It sounds like you are talking about pipe and not tubing.

it says tube right in the book thats from the supplier. Its not schedule 40 or anything like that internal dimensions are wrong for it to be pipe.

just phoned my supplier and he swore that its tube, I should of phoned him first off but I was currious as to what everyone thought of it. Must be different than the stuff you use at work.
I think I'm going to use it.

I didn't know this ...
I was talking to my dad and he says its the same stuff we use to build componets for roll cages for fibreglass topped buses (van type conversions) for someone else. We bend the hoops and they weld em. it passed all the goverment safety tests. They actually dropped weight on the roof of a van.

Thanks for input ...

I'm bringing this one back from the dead, I'm about to buy dies for my got trikes bender, and it seems that hrew (or at least the steel suppliers' I talked to, their "cheapest welded seam tube"), in the 1-3/4" .120 wall flavor, is between $3.50-4.50/foot range here (Pittsburgh) and I talked to a local fab shop and he said he uses handrail tube, it's got a welded seam and is 1-1/2" but the od is around 1-5/8", just under 3/16" wall and it's under $2/foot. He has a cage in his dirt track car using the handrail tube/pipe and says its "NASCAR approved".... My question is, do I buy 1-3/4" dies and pay the coin for hrew/erw or 1-5/8" dies and use the cheap stuff??

I'm not running KOH, just a wheeler and feel DOM is not required

And also, will the bender bend the shit properly or will it fatigue the shit out of it?? And YES I searched...

The cheap handrail pipe will dent and bend VERY easy from my experience.

I built an exo out of it on my first truck.

One year of hard wheeling and it was bent/dented all to shit and would shift badly on even easy flops.

I run all DOM now, it doesnt' dent as easily and is always cleaner and welds better, doesnt require as much bracing...

I can buy 1.75 DOM .120 wall for $3.75-$4 a foot from several steel suppliers in Nashville.

Find somewhere else to buy tube, and use good shit if you are planning on your cage lasting.

At least use DOM on the main pillar tubes and stuff that will hit rocks and trees...

Correct me if I am wrong but tube and pipe are one in the same.

Pipe is the I.D and Tube is the O.D.

That's the answer I was looking for, dies are the same price either way...

Find out the material grade, "handrail pipe" means sweet fuck all, without a material grade given it could be a cromoly based material for all you know. As an FYI the material should be tagged (stamped or usually painted/stenciled) with the grade on the material, if it isn't DO NOT BUY (espically if its in full sticks or coming from the scrap pile).

Correct me if I am wrong but tube and pipe are one in the same

Ding ding ding, pipe/tube are sizing methods not material types.
