i have a double arm (x-over) set up right now. i personally feel fine w/ it and think hi-steer is not a necessity...but i won some all pro arms. should i keep em...or sell em? i really need the $$ and could prob sell them faster than my double arm. also...i would have to modify some stuff to use thje hi-steer arms. i curently dont have p/s and prob wont for at leats a few months. got other probs to work out.
--- so like i said...i gotta choose qwik cause i need the $$ wich is why i feel my double arm is fine. it was built by jeff (dogwalker) so i totally trust my life with it. wow i type a lot:eek: peace!

I see more bent tie rods when people run double arms. I went through two myself.

If you have them free, do the High Steer, it will save you tons of woe on the trail.

Finally, the double arm is good but it does put undo strain on the pass side knuckle with the "lever" action it causes.

I had to tighten mine often.

Bent tie rods from a double arm? The drag link attaches to the upper arm rather than the tie rod itsself (like the stock set up) This set up takes alot of added stress away from the tie rod, which in turn should result in fewer bent tie rods.

Second: the drag link is now stronger since its parallel with the tie rod and runs straight across rather than down at an angle. Also, it's out of harms way being above the spring.

And has for the added stress to the knuckle, this is true. But with some prevenentive maintance, those problems will be eleminated.

My take on the hy-steer arms, sell them and get some money because their not gonna make your rig wheel any better! Don't waste anymore money on your front end, cause you're just gonna wanna get rid of it once you see how much much it breaks!

And one last thing to ya Dustin, I picked up that SM420 from my shop today, its in my garage now. Could'nt find an old style pinion flange that was'nt on an axle.

I think he's sayin more bent tie rods cause the tie rods is below the spring, rather than being above it with the hi steer, and it gets bashed more often... i think...

My double steering arm set-up works great, I certainly wouldn't go thru all the hassle to change it out. Why change somthing that works ?

I have bent my tie rod a couple of times though, that was because of big rocks and a bad line, I carry a spare, takes no time at all to change one.

That tie rod is just like anything else that hangs down under your rig. I try to choose a better line through the rocks. You do the same thing for your pumkins , drivelines and whatever else is down under there.

Dude...you know what I meant , my freaking tie rod had nothing to guard it and got hammered often.

The high steer keeps your tie rod up and happy.

What I will definately agree with is to NOT spend a bunch of money on any axle with Birfields in it :)

im thinking about starting a new topic for this, if i get no answers, but why do the toyota arms, go downwards and out on an angle?

do the high steers,m go upwards and out at an angle?
will hi-steer arms that simply go up and straight out have an effect on the handling?

if not, then why do toyota have bends in the arms?
if it will affect toe-in toe out, then do allpros arms go up and out?

does anyone know what im tlaking about?
or am i :smokin: the good shit?
