Income tax return time is approaching and I'm trying to plan out some upgrades for my 98 TJ. It has the 4.0/AX-15/NP231. I plan on purchasing an Atlas and would like to put a truck 4 speed in front of it. I'm leaning toward a SM465. A NV4500 is just too much coin and 1st gear isn't quite what I'm looking for.

A couple of manufacturers currently have or are in the process of R & D for a new bellhousing to mate the 4.0 to a sm465. At this point I do not know if they incorporate provisions for things like a crank position sensor or external slave cylinder. At least two manufacturers produce relocation kits for the crank sensor but, Based on feedback from a local shop, modifying a bellhousing to work shouldn't be problem.

Has anybody done a similar conversion on a TJ and if so what type of bellhousing did you use? Any help would be appreciated.

I did the same conversion on my YJ, advance adapters makes a bell housing with the provisions for the sensor. It worked out great give them a call.

Thats $408 when I checked. I would just like to find a cheaper way if possible. Any other feedback on trouble you ran into would be appreciated.

Got a call back from my AA guy the above info's correct. They do make one. By the way he says you may be the first to do this swap.
