What is a good price for a rebuild kit for a 2f?

A good price would be less than $1500, but that isn't gonna happen! People have been saying for years that the #1 reason for swapping in a V-8 is due to rebuild costs of the inline six.

The reason why it cost so much is not the machine work, but the parts. Since there are basicly no real aftermarket internal parts available, you must order parts from the dealer and Landcruiser parts warehouses. Good luck,

really depends on what the problems are that are causing the need for a rebuild. you can find kits for less than $1000, look around on the internet. but its not the kit cost that will be the biggest $$'s. it'll be all the other little pieces that you'll want to do while you're in there. things like getting the pistons bored over, porting and polishing the head. new clutch and pressure plate. from the LCML you see lots of estimates that you'll spend in the neighborhood of $2000 after all is said and done. or you could shop around and find a used 2F for well under $1000 and be done with it. Even if you were to consider putting an SBC in it, you'll have conversion issues that seem to come close to $2000 as well, unless you're a very competent fabricator.

PacLift in N. San Diego County, CA (Vista, San Marco?)used to sell rebuild kits for under $600 and rebuilt long blocks for $1300. They used to have a web site, but it is no longer working. You could ask for them in directory assistance ot try your local Toyota Forklift vendor, since the engines and the parts are the same. Come to think of it, the 2F does make a nice fork lift engine, since it lifts those FJ40s right up over the rocks.

Or you could buy a rebuilt F with a new Downey Holley conversion kit, K&N airfilter, stainless braided fuel line, 6 into 1 header, complete exhaust, alternator, starter, water pump, radiator, belts, hoses, etc....... Basically complete from carb to pan and turn key, just drop in and go! I want $1300 for everything, email me if interested.

Have also been looking locally, quotes range
from 1800. - 2500. for a "remanufactured" 2F.
Looking at prices for a rebuild kit for a 350
looks like can range up to 1000. pretty easy.
Then add to that machine work. then you have conversion stuff that can be 1000 or more real easy. Then you need new exhaust an radiator mods 300-500. then you buy accessories like an alternator, water pump, fuel pump, ignition system, intake, carb, and on and on. Am I missing something because It doesn't look to me like a quality
350 swap isn't cost effective. Some of you guys who have done them what has it really cost when you add up everything.

Igot my 2f tanked, bored,Heads redone,Crankshaft balanced and a rebuild kit for 800 bucks.Would've been alot more though if I got new Valves and lifters but Thats still a damn good deal.

I ended up with $1,350 into a complete rebuild, and that's with my labor to pull, teardown, reassemble and reinstall. Bored 20 over and used almost all Toyota parts with exception to the pistons I got from my machine shop. Like above, that does'nt include all the new parts I already had installed: waterpump, header, JC carb, Centerforce clutch, foreign distributer, etc. If you start upgrading, you could hit $2,000 easy.

Wish I coulda got my parts and machine work for $800 - that's a killer price.

Well swapping in a V-8 is more cost efective when you consider future upgrades and repairs to the V-8 compared to the 6 banger, plus any v-8 302/350 etc will get much better fuel economy, power, sound better <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> , look better <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">, and weigh alot less!

Hey but if you still want that 6 banger, go for the rebuild!

unless you go vortec fuel injected mileage gains are 2-3 mpg feeding extra cylinders.
As for repair expenses If taken care of the inline 6's longevity is 2-3x that of a 350.

True in most cases, but it really depends on what carb you use. My Ford 302 got 18mpg or so with a Motorcraft 2bbl, and still gets about the same with fuel injection. I know a few guys that have 350's with quadrajets that get 15-16mpg as well.

Best price I found was $1200 plus machine work. I picked up a complete 5.7 Vortec/4L60E/NP241 for $750.

the guys doing mine is well respected and was able to get an entire rebuild kit, new cam, lifters, oil pump and the works for $850. Plus another $550 for all the machine work, installing the cam bearings, and balancing my flywheel, clutch, harmonic balancer and crank. This included going 20 over for the pistons.

I've got about 2,200 into my LQ4 6.0, if you're gonna spend some dough put in something fun! If you are lookin for real budget TBI chevy 350 is the way to go.:D
