I have a holley red electric fuel pump on my 360 powered CJ. I mounted it back near the fuel tank. I have an inline filter between the tank and the pump, then have 3/8 fuel line (Alum) to the motor where i have an adjustable regulator (holley) followed by an inline fuel pressure guage and finally another inline filter before going into my Qjet (internal filter removed). The problem is that my fuel pressure varies between 2-8 lbs. while the engine is running regardless of where the regulator is set. Sometimes it will stay nice and steady and I will adjust it where I want it (4.5lbs) and all will be good, then later I will look at it and it will be near 2lbs. The engine will continue to run and the fuel filter is still full of fuel but the pressure guage says the pressure has gone way down. What gives?? I replaced the fuel pump with a new red pump and added the filter back by the tank because i figured some crap got into the first pump from the new tank and screwed the pump up but the problem persists. The red pump is factory set at 7psi so how the hell can the guage say 8psi? Is there any way the regulator could boost pressure. I figured if its wide open then the fuel would be at max pressure from the pump (7psi) or if the regulator was closed then the engine would starve and the filter would be empty. The inline guage is a liquid filled summit racing unit, should i be suspicious of this relatively simple unit?? Could the combination of hard and flexible line between the pump and assorted filters be causing too much friction and screwing with the pressure? I have the pump on its own fuse and it doesnt seem to surge with RPM so I think its getting all the juice it needs so I think I can rule out an electrical problem but i would appreciate any input.
Thanks,
