I've got an 83 F250 4x with a 460. The tranny dumped all its fluid while under power, I've gathered that I probably took out something in the front pump/seal area.
I'm pulling the tranny tomorrow and need to know about any tricks or potential pitfalls in the removal of the case and tranny.
Also any of you Ford guys recommend a shop to get a replacement. I'm just looking to get it back on the road.
Thanks in advance.

I got a line on a rebuilt with a 12 month warranty for 375 with the torque converter. I'm mainly worried of there's any thing I need to worry about in the removal of the tranny or replacement with the new.
Should I drop the 205 first then pull the tranny or leave em together. I have a tranny jack and a couple floor jacks at my disposal.

it dont really matter bout spliting the np205 or not.. tranny jack helps alot.. just depends do u wanna pull all the weight at once or 2 different times..id personally pull it all at once.. as far as pulling it and replacing it its pretty much straight forward.. 4 bolts hold t/c to flex plate. how ever many bolts on in the bell housing dont rember off top of my head. un hook lines.. drop swap throw it back up there.
payton.

However much HP a tired stock 460 puts out:cool:
I just hooked up with a guy from the board for a Tranny and 205 for $250 including the converter.
I'm still gonna flush the lines. Next purchase will be an aux tranny cooler;)
I picked this whole truck up for free and it's run perfectly for about nine months including towing my junk to AZ and the hammers a dozen or so times. Now I have a $250 tow rig:D
Thanks for the help

just make sure you have the torque converter ALL the way in on the pump and seated properly. If not when you go to tighten the bellhousing bolts you'll damage the front pump on the tranny. As you line up the tranny to the motor and start to snug the bolts, keep making sure that the torque converter still has play front to back. when it is all bolted together (except the four nuts to studds on the Torque converter to flexplate) the torque converter will have about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of front to back play. There should be NOTHING binding on the torque converter as you snug it down.
If it is completey empty then add 9 quarts at a minimum to it before starting the tranny and the rest as you run it to make sure it doesn't get over filled.
