: passenger side flat top knuckle drilled and tapped from Factory Pic
Below is a stock passenger side flat top knuckle that was drilled
and tapped from the Factory. It's from an unknown vehicle, my
guess is a 74-76 Full Size Jeep. I found a bare axle with just the
knuckles still attached. The driver side knuckle has 3 studs
coming out of it and rust marks from a steering arm that was
removed. The axle looked shorter than a Full Size Pickup, but I
didn't measure the distance between ball joints. The picture is
after I bought it and wire-wheeled the top and spindle mounting area's.
Any Ideas on what it's out of?

Your link says "This page in unavailable". You must have some password on it or need to mark it as shared. No Jeeps used a studded knuckle, driver or passenger side. My guess is mid-80's Dodge. I have heard that either '83 or '84 Dodge 1/2 tons had the passenger side drilled and studded. Are the spring pads setup for spring over or spring under? That would give you more clues as to its origin.
JEEPRZ 12-29-2001, 04:25 PM The dodge 44s that I have seen have 2 threaded holes near the pass side perch, which is cast into the diff.
The dodge's also had a 5 lug pattern, with 2 threaded holes in the knuckle as a caliper mount.
Sorry guy's.
The picture loaded in the preview, and the link also worked. Same as I've always done with a picture. It's either me or geocities, I need to find a new host.
I was able to pull it from some where else, sorry for the large size.
Anyone ever seen one of these? Come on someone must have.
Steve N 12-31-2001, 06:07 PM We have one in stock. It's off a Jeep alrighty. I have the part number, and the Spicer number. We found one a few weeks ago, I'm checking to see if we can get more. It's cheap too. considering it comes with new ball joints and the machine work, trip to the muddy wrecking yard etc. By the way we had it sitting around on our front counter and the only one who spotted it was Ropeburn from this board.
.
Hang on here.
Are you saying you've found a new knuckle for Spicer with pre-drilled and tapped holes for a passerners side Dana44?

BillaVista 12-31-2001, 07:47 PM C'mon Steve - spill those part numbers big guy !!
The Rockslut 01-01-2002, 06:57 PM What application from Jeep had that knuckle?
I would say dodge knuckle. Is the taper in the tie rod end from the top or bottom. Chevy's use the taper with the big end at the top dodge is opposite (tie rod enters from the top). Dodge knuckle will work but the clocking of the spindle bolts is different from chevy, just like the pic shows.
Not sure what that came off of but I would be very curious to find out.

Tie rod ends enter from the bottom, tie rod below.
I've a set of Chevy 74 knuckles with tie rod ends on top and I'll haved to check if the bolt patter is off set from the picture.

Well, Checked the 74 Chevy knuckles. They are VERY similar to the above picture. Bolt pattern is the same (The bottom bolt is a 6 O'Clock) The casting numbers and Dana <> is in a different area, not to mention no drilled and tapped holes :D

brokefinder 10-05-2004, 06:24 PM Are the knuckles on a '73 K5 Blazer flat tops? Or is it just the driver side? What chevy trucks should I look at for flat top knuckles?
rock-rod 10-06-2004, 02:26 PM I have seen only one such D44 pass side knuckle that was predrilled for a steering arm- it was on a 4X4 ambulance conversion that ended up in a salvage yard outside of Durango. Chevy van, '76 or '77 vintage. This was a number of years ago. The hole pattern was the reverse image of the driver's side chevy knuckle. They do exist, just super rare.
edit: holy old posts batman! I didn't realize this was from 2 years ago!
rockinfive+2 10-06-2004, 02:31 PM The early J-trucks had flat top on both sides but the pass was not drilled and tapped. I know a guy in FL. had a bunch of the new spicer ones that are milled and drilled. the shop I worked out bought most of what he had I will have to call him to see if he has any left.
brokefinder 10-06-2004, 03:28 PM cool B)
JohnnyJ 10-06-2004, 04:13 PM Hey MrN, I tried to look at the pics and it said no go. Send them to me at johnnyj@msg4x4club.com and I'll post them up here. It'd be interesting to see.
I know my 75 Wag has flat tops, but the pass side is not drilled and tapped.
brokefinder 10-06-2004, 04:21 PM If you haven't noticed, this post is super duper old
JeepManEd 10-07-2004, 07:16 AM Well, here is where the knuckle might of come from...I was hoping to find one someday and hopefully corner the market on them...I once saw a Jeep mail van deliver my mail to me about three years ago...it was a Jeep van (RHD)with chevy tube front axle with mock 4 WD hubs and knuckles...no pumkin or inner axles. It had the factory rh flat top drilled. It was called a FJ-8. The only postal jeep wrecking yard I could find was called AAA postal jeep and the guy on the phone said that he had a couple, and when I told him what I was looking for...he miss understood me and when I mentioned I was from oregon he said he would not ship anything that far and hung up on me... :flipoff2: I called him back a few times to let him know what I felt about his buisness ethics...anyway, I am hoping someone out there knows where the post office took all on these wrecked or worn out vehicles...incedintly...I think a fleet of them where taken to a local steel scrapyard and crushed. The steel yard I am talking about, will not sell a car part, no if, ands, or buts...sucks. Ed

This all makes sense. The Jeep DJs had a similiar set-up but Dana 30 style. It's funny looking at the front axle, everything but the chunk and the steering reversed. It be kinda cool to build an auto trail rig with right-hand drive.
