My 2f leaks oil where the skid plate is spot welded to the oil pan. Whats a good fix? I don't want to buy a new pan. I was told to remove the pan and mig-weld the skid plate perimeter to the pan itself. I was hoping for something easier. I have an extra cork gasket!I think this may be a common problem as I have seen several other fj40s doing the same thing. They get pinholerust between the skid plate and pan . What have you guys found for a cure??

Back when my brother had a 2f in his '55 he had the exact same problem
Took off the pan sent it to an engine shop to be hot tanked (ie: totally 100% clean)
then he simply laid a pool of braizing over each of the spot welds from the inside

Could you lay a bead between the skid plate and the oil pan?
Mine does the same thing and I can not get my $%#@$$ oil pan loose.
I beat it to a pulp and hammered a wood chistle at it for 45 minutes and could not get it to break loose.
I say screw it <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

The brazing idea sounds fine, and the perimiter weld has always worked...
To get a stubborn pan off...
Place a bottle jack against the frame and a 2X4 section on the side of the pan @ the skid plate... Apply pressure and go have a beer :-)
Provided you removed all of the bolts from the pan... the pan should be hanging from the engine or lying on the ground when you get back.
