I am swapping out my th350 for a sm465. I have a 208 t-case while my donor has a 205. I was wanting to keep my driveshaft since I don't have one for a 205. SO is an adapter needed to mate a sm465 to my 208? I have never done this swap before so anything you can tell me that might be usefull is greatly appreciated.

it will be MUCH cheaper and easier to come up with the driveshafts then to adapt to the 208 from an auto ........... matter of fact if it's a longbed pu or a sub I have a d-shaft that i'd swap ya for that 208 case.

Keep the 465 and the 205 together and get some new driveshafts. The 205 is in my opinion is a much more desireable transfer case (cast construction, steel gears) vs the 208 (alumminum construction with chain drive)

i do agree with the other guys that the 205 is way tougher then a 208. But the answer to your question is that yes, there is a factry adapter to mate your 465 to your 208 . I know this because thats what is in my rig now. But Im in the process of swapping to a 205 as we speak. All Im lacking is the rear shaft. To my understanding , there are different output shafts in the 465 so you may need to swap to the correct shaft to mate to your 208 . If your not in a hurry i might could sell you my adapter if you need it .

'preciate ya'lls input. I will probaly try to swap over to the np205.. Swap out the 10 bolts atter that and it should be a bulletproof truck. If I decide to keep the 208 I may be interested in that adaptar if I cant find one locally.

Holy crap! You can change a driveshaft EASY! NP205 is countless times as good as a damn 208! Why would you spend money tryin to keep a 208? that makes no sense at all........:shaking:

I at least know one reason off the top of my head, lower gearing. The 208 is a pain because of the slip shaft and it is weaker, but generally if you don't smack the aluminum case on a rock it won't break. I'm saying generally because if you have a high HP motor you can break it but normally something else will break first.
The 205 does kick ass because it can be twin sticked, that and it's strength make it the choice for my buggy, but it does come with it's weaknesses such as weight and crappier gearing.
