I have a B in my 79 BJ40 and a 3B in my 84 BJ60, but you already know about them.
Lots of B/3Bs in Canada.

Q: Can you use a K N filter on one of these deisel engines...? does it work better than stock?

I would not use a K&N. They have a reputation for being low restriction but not that effective at filtering. And where you live there's lots of dust. Are stock filters hard to find or are Toyota dealers all over the place? How much do stock filters cost?
I use stock Toyota filters even though both my motors are aftermarket (AXT) turbocharged.

I have a stock filter.. I had the impression that the KN filters were better.. I will search for more info on them..Yes stock filters are easy to get.. I have an oil filter.. it works nice.. I just wanted to improve on the power as much as I couild....

turbo, is the answer, i turbocharged, my 3B, (3430cc) and had 17psi of boost, before it lifted a crossover pipe, but normally around 14psi, and over 100HP at the rear, thats wiuth 35s on!

turbo for more power, you could stuff around all day, but you wouldnt notice much increase, when you do things, like a snorkel, filter, extractors, play with the pump, porting, polishing, you could rebuild the motor for better compression, but by the time yiouve done all this, you might aswell have bolted on a bigassed mofo turbo :D

http://www.axtturbo.com.au/Turbos.html

i did mine myself, flipped manifold, body lift, straight through 2.5 inch exhaust, bolted together pretty easy, i also used an aftermarket oil cooler, but this isnt necessary (body lift was cause i had the turbo up so high (out of the mud) ;) and water, and cause it looked so much tougher!
make an adapter from turbo to the 3B manifold and your sweet

also i beleive toyota offered a 13B-T, which is a 3B with a turbo ;)

cheers

oh yeha, i think it was less than $500 australian after i fully installed it!! :D

then i had the turbo, FULLY, bombed, finned, housing changes, and all sorts of fun, really BOOSTED, and that costed me $1400

but yeah, its all fun 'n' games!!! ;)
