I was putting together my rear axle, and I put my c-clips in to hold the axle in and then pulled them to make them seat in. I was wondering, what keeps the axles from moving in and the c-clips falling out. Is it the brakes, and will anything be effected when I put the rear chevy disc brake conversion on the rear.
Thanks

Need to install the spacer & shaft that goes between the axle ends. Then re-install the lock bolt.:p

That is what the center pin is for. It will keep it all together for you.

I am confused, what do you mean by spacer and shaft. Is there any pics that you know of that I can look at.
Thanks

This is how I installed the axles, I put the axles in with the center pin already installed, then I put the c-clips on each axle. Am I missing something, is there a spacer or something that goes between the c-clip and the axle. If I push in on the axle the c-clip will fall out.
Thanks

The spacer and the center pin are installed at the same time. The center pin fits neatly into the spacer. Install C-clips, then place the spacer in its home, slide the center pin through the carrier and then through the spacer. Install #12 keeper bolt and walla, c-clips stay in place til you bust the snot out of the axle... No spacer, no good.....

I dont think mine had that, what I did was weld up the third that was in the front of mine and put it in the rear, and then I took the lock-rite third that was in the rear and put it in the front. Does the front third have one of these spacers in it. Also do you use this spacer with the lock-rite if it is in the back.
Thanks

You got to find and install the part treeroot has indicated, it is not used in the front but you have to have it in the rear or your axles are gonna come out.:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
And no it is not used with a lockrite

Looks like they are $7.50 used from SOR. They come in different thicknesses though. Too narrow and your axles moves in, c-clip drops out, then your axle moves way out.

there are definetly different thicknesses, so you will need to measure and pick the best one... A bit of slop wont hurt too much, but I have tried to install one(thinking they were all the same) that was too big and would not fit. and I did not have thinner shims either. So I had to tear apart a few diffs I had to find the correct one.
