I just picked up my new YZ250 and i was wondering if there is a correct way to break-in the engine? I was going to ride it at low rpm for a while, then slowly start revving it higher over an hour or so. The manual says you have to take the entire top-end apart after your done breaking it in......WTF? I'd appreciate it if you guys could help me out. It's just that ive never owned a brand new bike befoe and i dont feel like messing anything up. Thanks

just go ride it like normal, but you need to stop once in awhile to check bolts and spokes cuz they will loosen or fall off quickly. its not necesary to remove the top end either. no extra oil in the gas or anything just ride it. oh yeah make sure the filter is oiled cuz yamaha doesnt oil them enuf at the factory and the dealer might not have either. also the steering head bearings and shock linkage will need to be greased as that is something else they dont do very well at the factory.

WFO Baby ! No you want to ride it mellow at like half throttle for 15 minutes and let it cool off and do it again a couple of times. After that hold it wide open ! Hehehe
New YZ's are sweet, You can swap out the 01 flywheel and get more snap out of it. Also if you are not running a spark arrester you can cut down the silencer 3 inches and you will get more bark out of it.
