Here's the deal, I've got a scout D44 front the I narrowed - finnaly got to putting the new joints in the axles, and they appear to be too large. The bearing caps are the right size, but the joints appear to be 1/4" too wide. The parts I got are 0297 joints.

So here's the question - did any scout D44's use a different joint, or maybe the joints I have were mislabeled? Supposedly the axle was off a 79

My 79 D44 has X297 joints. You say too big, in what way don't they fit?

Ok, apparently I had too much, or not enough beer last night. The problem was that there was so much grease in the joint that the caps couldn't be seated completely.

How embarrassing.

Was down at truck heaven for new years and met "Axle" Jack. He showed me one of those monster d44 ujoints before it was machined and that thing must weigh a pound or more. Those things are beef. Bet nobody breaks them without destroying there axles. They already out last the moser (sp) shafts.
