"Old" jeep experts: (Like maybe Mr Stevo who has a neato shop
next to the boat shop in Cordelia!)

I've got an older cj5/mb38A1-whatever jeep.

has a 350 SBC, 400 turbo trans to Dana-spicer model18 transfer
case. (I'm guessing on the "actual" transfercase model as this
point, but in an earlier article in a mag had info regarding the
model 20 spicer transfer case only had a 1.250 middle-shaft.

my case has a 1.125" (I think.. middle shaft)

I haven't seperated the trans from the transfercase, and I'd like
to know what the spline count is on the dana-spicer 18 case
input?

Could I easily bolt up a dana 300 to the back of my T400 tranny?

what's all involved............

main goal here:::

I trying to get away from the offset rear output d-line, so I can
swap in a d-60 or 14 bolt..........

THanks,

and, just kidding about being old........

Steve--- Now that I know where your shop is, I'd like to stop
in and say hey and introduce myself........ I make trips up to
Chico (hometown) at least once every other month or so with
the wife and kids...

One of two.... 6 spline or 10 spline. Never did make any others. 20's are 1.25" btw. Almost the same case as the late model 18 as far as actual iron casing. If your jeep origionally had a T14 you have a 10 spline.

Mikeeeeeeeeee! thanks for your reply sir! how's LIvermoooore
this evening?

I'm really not sure what the model case is. And to try and guess
what the jeep had originally would lead to ulcers.

But, I am pretty sure the d300 has a 23spline input? yes/no?

Livermore's wet.. well not as wet as I was earlier today, but at least I have a rear 60 in my garage to show for it though ;) Something like that I have one in my garage I could go look at.. well that and a spare input shaft. Check out www.novak-adapt.com they have a 350 to 18/20/300 adapter. :D I've seen pics of the side of your jeep.. tubs m38a1.. I have no clue whats under it ;) I could ID it for you but you live too far away! ;)

I am almost sure that your 18 will be 6 spline. You could look for a Scout 300 because it would have the same bolt pattern as the 18/20 but I don't know if it is 23 spline like the other 300's or 6/10 spline.

The Scout 300's only came in 1980 Scouts are not that easy to find.

WEEKEND UPDATE! (I always thought SNL was funny)

Not even considering the possibility of the trans/transfer
combo until last night of a 24 hr shift. (looking at eBAY)

I thought the trans pan looked a bit large for a TH350.
(I know two different shapes of pans for t400 t350)
I just never thought I'd have a t400 since their sooo
big and long... well, It's defeinetly a T400.. Hence, the
11" rear driveline. the guy that built this thing now
never ceases to amaze me in his design prowess...

hehehe, T400, supposedly a 350 Vette motor, dana 18
with the dana 27 front, and model 44 rear.

I know the heads are 202 camel humps. I can't wait
to get this thing running now.....
