Just wanted to say hi. I've always been a Chevy guy but just recently bought a K5 and just finished some work on it.

Oh, and I just thought of a question. I can't get my T-case into 4HI. It goes into 4LO and 2HI, but not 4HI. It feels like it is almost there but won't go that extra click. Any ideas? Thanks

I don't remember what the shifting pattern of the 205 is, but if 4hi is at one end or the other of the pattern it might just be a shifter adjustment issue.

This has happened to me many times over the years, sometimes i can't get 4 Hi, sometimes it's 4 lo. Before I got good armour on the underside i messed up my linkage a couple of times, even bent 1 of the shifting rods going into the transfer case. After the new skid plates went on it still kept happening. I don't know if it was the cab flexing and pulling on the shifter or if the moon was just in a bad orbit or what, but it was ALWAYS the linkage on mine.
If your factory linkage is like mine was it is not ajustable. It is either right or something is loose, bent or seized, and it will probly happen again and again ( always in the middle of a mud hole , half way up the side of a mountain or someplace else where you really did'nt need the agrevation).
The answer for mine was replacing the factory linkage with 2 sticks, 1 for 2whl & 4 whl, the other for hi & lo range. Alot of people do this so they can use low range while in 2 wheel drive. To be honest I seldom do this so it's not really and advantage for me. The big payoff for me is it's SOOOO much easier to switch my tranfer case and the linkage always works. I have'nt had one prob since I switched to twin stick.
Here is a good link which is mostly about dual transfer cases but also shows how to twin stick your NP205.

Hope this helps.

Linkage?? Does it go in if you roll a couple of inches to let the gears mesh properly? If it still doesnt then I would think it is a shift rail problem. You probably have a worn shift rail. The 205 I have in mine is the same way but I havent ever taken this one apart.

So it might be the shiftrail. It seems like one of the rails may be coming all the way out, but the other isn't quite making it. What would cause that and how would I fix it?
If it is the linkage, what would be wrong/how do I fix it?
Don't really have the time or $ for twin stick now. Just finished the very expensive and time consuming axle swap. Thanks for the advice guys.

I had this problem, and it turned out to be a shifter fork inside. One side had wore out and was not pushing the gear all the way into place. I took it out and welded a small bead on each side of the fork with a wire feed and then ground it down till it was the right thickness and put it back together. Works great now.

Are you puttining it in nuetral before shifting it into 4wheel? If so, go dual stick ;)
