you will need a vss (vehicle speed sensor) that goes in line with your speedo cable. check with some of the conversion places to see where to get one. :D

It goes on the transfer case. You can buy one that screws onto where your speedo cable would go. The original cable then screws on the other side of the VSS. I bought mine from Street and Performance.

You can run it without one also. I have run mine for years without one. painless and jags that run sell aftermarket ones
thanks fo all the replies:)
I was hoping someone did the spedo cable style VSS.
Odee, i am interested on the specs of your rig. I have read that a VSS will help you idle better, and runs rough with out it. If this is not the case, i might try it w/o the VSS, but have the part on hand if it goes south. OTOH, I'll have the whole truck apart, might as well do it right. decsions, decsions:)
thanks again!

Stock they run off the speedo ('till '89). There is an optical sensor in the back of the speedo. Not sure what year they started doing it, but my '83 had one for the cruise. The cheapest way would be to see if it will work with your speedo, or swap the speedo (will change your ODO, though). Were gonna look into converting my brother '70 like this. I heard somewhere the inline ones are around $80.

i had a custom wiring harness made for my jeep and they eliminaterd the need for that.
My 95 LT-1 has a adapter that is inline with the speedo cable.

The VSS's only role is to send the TBI system into whats called 'fuel save' mode. This occurs during long highway speed cruising.
I have a speedo cable mounted one I got from Howell Engine Developments. I was told I would need this to pass emissions testing here in Arizona... turned out to not be true.
