I took a couple pics at SEMA of Advance adapters new Rock Box. This particular box fit the SM465. Comes with a fully gated shifter. Ratio is 3.44 to 1 .
The guy told me the box will mate to the back of a ten spline without the GM adapter/spud shaft. The t-case will bolt directly on to the back of the box so only 5" is sacrificed.
I beleive he said it will first be offered for the Cruiser 3 and 4 speed , then available for the SM465/SM420.
For a stock 4 speed LC tranny .That should give you a crawl ratio of....115 to one. 148 to 1 for a sm 420. Kinda cool I thought. What do you guys think?
I am guessing (as he did) on the price but I would think it will be around $1200 list? not sure though!Should be available first of the year.

that thing is bad ass! did the guy say if there will be other models available that will allow it to go between a SM465 and something like a Dana 300? SM465 (6.68:1), this things (3.44:1), dana 300 with 4:1 kit, and my 4.88s... 448:1!!! nasty!

In reply to your question.....I don't know if they will be offered for other t-case but I would assume so. I don't think they would want to make it a choice between the rock box and the Atlas case either?????
Here is a link to some info on the new AA page http://www.advanceadapters.com/acrobat/tlccrawlers.pdf

VERY NICE

Only problem is you have the Toyota Transfer case still in the loop.

I like the idea of the Klune for the Cruiser tranny better.

If the transfer case could go that deep and be selectable, I would want to mate it to a nice, evenly spaced Toyota transmission, Refuction box then a D300 transfer case.

I remember talking to a guy at Advanced before the Atlas went up in price soon after they came out.
He assured me they would be coming out with one that would bolt directly to a 465 without an adapter.
I'm still waiting (not).
But at least they have pics of this one and hopefully the price for this will be somewhat low.
Anyone remember the Brabnob (sp) gearbox?
It went between tranny and t-case and had like three different lows, and an overdrive. It was made with semi gears and a custom case. They were out of Colorado and one of the rags had a thing on them a few years back.
They also made a smaller, cheaper version that only had 2 lows or something like that.
But the big box was around $3K.

Hummmm....that little box would solve my issues of lower gearing. When you run a 205 with a short wheel base it hard to fit in a doubler, but a 5" reduction box would do nicely. I'm keeping my eyes open for that unit!

That looks like a 1200.00 NP-203 Gear reduction portion too me,that still needs the 5" adapter to the Tranny.

Unless like was said they can do away with the adapter.

It also looks like the plates on the front and rear of it will be replacable. Kind of like the Ranger. If you change engines or trannies, you can change the application be changing the plate.
I still think it will be more than $1200 though.

I heard you will be able to put that AA box between a 420 and the stock case, that would be over 120 to 1 low (4:11 diffs) and only one inch longer than the AA 420 adapter.

This thing is bad ass......where do I sign up? This would solve all my creepy crawly needs.......I just hate to spend 2K for soerhing like this though. $1500 or less and now we would be talking!!! :flipoff2:

I am waiting for more info on how to use a
toy truck transfercase to do the same thing.

I know it has been done just dont know how.

I think you are off a bit on the crawl ratio...

sm420 1st = 7.05, TLC t-case = 2.3, Rear = 4.11
7.05*2.3*4.11 = 66.64 w/3spd tcase (55.05 w/4spd tcase)

rockbox = 3.44 (per original post)

New crawl ratio = 229.2 w/3spd tcase (189.4 w/4spd tcase)

Maybe I missed something in the post, but this is my $0.02

I called them today. $1000.00 available in March. Only for FJ40s. Will not work with a split case. The adapters are plates like the Ranger that will be swapped so shouldn't add length. I'm major bummed. I wanted one for the wagon.

Later!

ok, so I was of on the ratio a bit, just estimated the ratio with a 2:1 in the AA box, 189:1 even better, would'nt need any lower than that.
The kick ass part is that it will fit with just one more inch in my current drive-train.
That is when AA makes one for the 420 to 4spd case, right now only stock trans to case is offered. :usa:

I wonder what output shaft mod will be needed (cut off?). I'm going to put it between an AA 10 spline NV4500 adapter and a (cast iron or billet) 2.31 TC in a '66 FJ45 with Cummins 6AT3.4 (with 5.29s, lockers, FF, 4" susp. and 9.00R16 XZL Michelins = 36.5").
