I just pulled a set of shafts out of an 8.8 with a bent housing. One of the shafts has about .040" of deflection when held against a straight edge. How bad is this?
I was considering using it as a trail spare. I know it is better than a broken shaft if I was to install it on the trail, but is it going to wobble so bad it is not worth carrying?
Thanks for any input

use it as a spare, I wouldnt want to run it a long time it would wear bearings and/or vibrate like a bitch

the tolerance is +/- 1.001" :flipoff2:
throw it away, or sell it to an unsuspecting bastard

I kinda figured it was junk, but wasn't sure.

When a guy rearended my truck and went under he hit my wheel and bent the pass side axle shaft 0.038" and I drove it without even feeling it for 1,000 miles or so until someone pulled up beside and told me my wheel was all wobbly. Pissed me off too cuz that same shaft was just replaced a month before.
When it was pulled the bearing surface was a bit worn from the race, but it was still usable. Its now sitting in the garage as a trail spare (yes I put it in the truck when I go on real trips).
