I did a search and didn't really find what I wanted to know. My brother has an 2003 2500Hd that he wants to put a small lift on for a little bigger tires. I'm not a chevy guy so I don't pay much attention to IFS lift kits. From your own experince who makes good kits? Any recomendations? the only IFS kit I have installed was a skyjacker kit and it seemed ok, at least the install was, wasn't my rig. this truck spends most of the time on the pavement and pulls a large trailer. He just wants to fit a little bigger tires and get a little more ground clearance for hunting trips. It's allso embarrassing to not be able to drive around the constuction site because of lack of ground clearance. 2"- 4" would be good .

Buy a ford dana 60 and a welder and start fabbin:rolleyes:

Seriously though this website is a do-it-yourself kind of of place, ya know, cut, weld, bend, cut, weld and not a buy and bolt kind of place.
Although the site did make a section where this kind of question will be tolerated, its right here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=43)

I know about the bend, weld, cut methods, that's all I ever do, Which is why I don't know about IFS lift kits. Taking the hot wrench and welder to this truck isn't an option.

Not to piss you off but I wouldn't waste a ford dana 60 on a chevy when I have a ford to put it under:flipoff2:

ORU offers a 2-3inch leveling kit that just replaces the cogs on the torsion bars. It's cheap. $69.95. Does not stress the torsion bars and it just needs an alighnment when your done.

I agree with the others though and that is what I plan on doing with mine. 79 ford 60 so I can run 20's with da 40's.

I'm running a 6" RCD lift and 35" BFG Mud's on a 2002 Crewcab Duramax. I initially had issues with breaking the studs on Sway bar extensions, but RCD replaced them a couple of times free of charge and came up with a solution. Note, mine was one of the first few built. The other issue which is standard for GM IFS's and Lifts, is the speed at which they wear out Pitman & Idler arms. I have avg'd only about 15,000 before they needed replaced.

I'd like to know more about the ORU Tortion Bar keys myself. I've seen them, and they look like an easy way to get 2 more inches but haven't heard of anyone runnning them, and I've asked. Would be nice to run 37's on my Daily driver.
As for the straight axles. I've gotten my '79 D60 set up with 4.88's, and 40" Boggers that will be going under it when the warranty is up. The whole reason I bought the truck in the first place.

the ford 'keys' and the oru 'keys' are all the same. they just have more preload on them than the stock keys. so they still do the same thing as cranking the torsion bars.

SlamChops beat me to it. All the "re-key" does is keep the adjusting tab oriented correctly when "cranking" higher. It still kills the suspension, CVs and steering linkage. IMO, not a smart thing to do on a $40k truck. If you want info on the various lifts GM 2500HD lifts, go to theDiesel Place (http://dieselplace.com/forum/default.asp) and poke around. Searh a bit and you'll see that "Green Keys" and lots of other stuff has been fully covered and then some.

Frankly, I think lifting a GM HD IFS is a huge mistake anyway. If it was bought for a "wheeler", then that was the first mistake. If it was bought as a tow rig, then lifting it is a mistake since it will hurt the towing capabilities and longevity for nothing more than a cosmetic benefit. I run 33" (285/75/16) Bridgestone ATs on my 2500HD without so much as a single "crank" on the torsion bars.

If "leveling" is that big a deal, then a set of Velvet Rides on the rear will drop the back about 1.5" and soften some of the harshness. But the thing about leveling is that when you are loaded, then you are squatting and you get tire wear issues along with safety/steering problems. The only way I would level mine is if I dropped the back a bit and added air bags to keep it level when I have a heavy load.

I agree on the whole "lift" issue. I thing cranking the tortion bars is bad too, I thought this "kit" was the answer, guess not.

I would rather lower the rear than fawk up the front too....

Either way, just kicking tires on the whole deal...thanks for the info!
