I am thinking of doing a swap in my 87 yj to get rid of my pugeot which is dead on me,I have a chance to get a nv3500 out of a tj that only has 20K on it cheap. I have been told though that when I swap the input shafts on the xfer case that the 23 spline one is still too short for the tranny?
Any info on this? Anyyone attempted this swap?
Thanks,
Sean

not too long, too many splines, i think pewjoe trannys had 21 spline output shafts. you could just grab a newer transfercase too

Before you get to far into it you might want to checkout the new
NV3550.
I was at Advance Adapters on friday and saw one.
There are two setups,one is for a NP207 x-case(p/n 27-3507).
The other setup is for the NP231x-case(p/n27-3510)
Not sure of the price,it may be expenssive.

There are 2 versions of the 23 spline input shaft for a YJ. The short one is for the 5 spd, NV3500, 3550 and AX-15 trannies. The long version is for the TF999 auto tranny. The Peugot BA/10 and AX-5 use a short 21 spline input in the t-case. If you have a YJ you need an input shaft from a YJ or late modle XJ case. In '97 they changed the input bearing design.
