: Hybrid 44 with F150 'big bore' knuckles?

Yes I searched...

Anyone try using F150 HP44 knuckles with the dana 60 sized spindle bolt circle to make a hybrid front 44? Goal is to use 60 axle joints without cutting and welding a housing together. And retaining some existing 44 parts (gears, possibly locker).

Yes, I know there is a contingent here that hates hybrids and another contingent that hates 44's... (from the search of course)

I built a 9"/60 Hybrid for my CJ and the outcome was awesome and just what I expected / planned.

Working on a new rig and don't want to deal with 297 ujoints and 38's, want to keep the housing, 5.89's and light weight good clearance of the 44. Plus I'd rather keep selling 60's instead of using one.

So thinking of the F150 knuckles, caliper brackets and rotors (if I want 5 lug). With Dana 60 spindles, hubs and shafts. Yes, this would be 30 spline. :flipoff2: But, gets the big ujoint with bolt on parts!

Future potential here would be the 33 spline Detroit when Superior's 1 year exclusive runs out.

Thoughts?

Why? Because I have all the parts, including 60 stuff from a front I cut up for a rearend. This is a lightwieght rig, so I think the 44 R+P and 30 spline shafts will survive.

No I don't have any 60 stuff to sell :D

Should I just get CTM's, alloy shafts and call it lovely?

I have a 77.5 RC44 that I have been working on and thought the same thing so I compaired the 60 spindle to te 44 and the 60 is still bigger in both boly pattern and register. Also the u-joint will not fit inside the knuckle.

I need to look things over closer, I think maybe I have a later axle. The spindle bolt pattern is definitely the same. I did try that... And the hole is 'way' bigger than the regular 44...

I can get some pics up tomorrow. Need a new photohosting site...

I agree it is way bigger but still not quite as big as a 60. A regular 44 spindle will just fall through the hole.

Well, lined it up some more. No go.

The Dana 60 DEFINITELY has the same bolt pattern, but as you said, the registration diameter is wrong. That is fixable. What isn't is the 0.20" interference of the Dana 60 ujoint on the 44 balljoint!

So.... Next thought..... What does the Ford Dana 50 TTB front end run for axle joints. Looks like they are in between 297's and 332's. I might buy one cheap to experiment with.

Happy New Year guys!

That is what I have stuffed in there right now because I think it is a 1350.? The OD of the yoke is 3.875 and a 60 is 4.125 so with a little work the the lower balljoint I think it will fit. It will take some work to get the 50/60 spindle to work because the 50 uses a 30 spline stub much like a 60 but the smaller yoke for the u-joint. I used the bearing hubs from the 50 on my 60 to get rid of the dually hubs so I only have the spindles at this time so I will have to get more 50 bearing hubs before I get to much further. I don't know if I can get the brakes to work or whatever might come up.
