I got a friend with a ZJ and he was wanting to put a dana 44 rear axle. But we are not sure if it would cost more to weld the plates on or what not.
So we can up with the idea about cutting the tubes off the dana 35 and welding it on a dana 44 tube. I know the XJ dana 35 and dana 44 tube is the same diatmeter. But it is the same inner wall diameter? Would this cost more?
Gas ain't cheap and we are cheap. Oh yea i thought of posting on JU, but they seem to be a bunch of fucking dumb ass and would say no because you can't find it out of quadratec.

Well, you just made yourself alot of friends here with that statement!
If the both axles are available for inspection couldn't you measure the inner walls with a micrometer?

I think i would have done that if they were avaliable, but they are not thats why i'm posting here.
Either people are getting more stupid, or we are losing smarter people.

To be honest I had never really given that much thought but now that I have I think it is a dumbass idea.
Why not just do it right by cutting the brackets off and putting them on the new axleshaft? WAY easier, and it is the right way to do it.
RE makes a bracket kit for 299 for the TJ and with a little modification it will work with the ZJ. But cutting the brackets off and rewelding them is a very viable option.
But I suppose that with enough wasted time you could hornfaggle the two together and yes they are the same diameter.

I would have to second the dumbass idea. The D/C Dana 44 and Dana 35 TJ tubes may be the same but I would like to see you make the tube ends correct to press in the bearings or turn your D44 axles into C-Clip units. Might be a bit expensive but hey go for it.

From what I gather this dude is way too cheap/poor to purchase brackets from RE if he is bitching about "wasting" gas. Or am I an idiot to assume that:mad2:

I'm wondering which axleshafts you plan on using? 27 splines in a 30 spline carrier? Oh, the 44 shafts so you can watch them fall out as you back out the driveway?
Maybe you were a bit too quick on bashing the JU board...
