: Electric Fuel Pumps still on with Engine Off--Help!

I have a 91 F250 with 5.0L fuel injected engine. I just noticed
today that when I shut it off and pull the key that the gas tank
mounted fuel pump still is on (you can hear it pumping). Switching
to the rear tank turns on its fuel pump.

I tried restarting the engine many times and then shutting it off
with no luck. I tried leaving it pump for a long while to see if it
would trip a pressure switch and shut off ---no luck.

I finally disconnected the negative battery terminal. My guess
would be that a relay is stuck on somewhere. Any help would be
appreciated.

Well, the fp relay should be mounted in a line of several relays behind the airbox.

What do you mean by "air box"?
- Is it air filter box in the engine compartment?
or
- Air ducting under dash in cab of truck?

Let me know. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks everyone for the help and D60 for the picture. (digital
cameras are fun, we just purchased one this xmas also).
After locating the relay I reseated the connector and the problem
went away. So either the contacts were dirty or the relay was
stuck on and me beating on the plastic case to get the connector
off unstuck the relay. I'll have to keep my ears open and if it
happens again replace the relay. At least Ford put it in an easily
accessable location---go figure!.

Thanks,

Jim

Do yourself a favor and get a quality one, too. Napa or the dealer would be my recommendation. Think about how long the factory one lasted - 10 yrs ain't bad. If you buy a cheapie from Checker or Autozone you might get 1 yr, at least IME.
