i work with a guy who is into racing and he said there was a kit to put into a turbo 350 that would make it able to roll start it like any manual tranny. is this true cause i've looked in all my hot rod type catalogs not alot since i'm a wheeler not a racer. second any one know of a place to buy this and the cost. and does any one wheel with this set up.

I'm new to auto trannies, just learning about them myself. There is such a thing as a manual valve body for most auto trannies that makes shifting just like a manual tranny, but I'm not sure if you could roll-start it. Sorry I couldn't help more.

I roll with a TH350 and havn't had any problems with it.......except for a 2 to 3 shift sprag gear giving out. I havn't heard of a kit that will allow you to roll start an auto though.....keep me posted.

I'm sure that there is a kit for this somewhere. Auto's used to be able to do this from the factory a long time ago.

Circle track auto trannies have the roll start option. You know the cars with the big wings that run on dirt and only turn left. They are push start auto trannies and most use a small block chevy and a TH350 or similar. Jegs has a circle track section in their catalog and I do believe that they list a push start pump.

Back in the olden days, automatic transmissions had a rear pump that was driven by the output shaft. As the transmissions got more complex these rear pumps were eliminated to save space and mainly to cut costs.
I believe these transmissions all had rear pumps . . .
Buick Dynaflow, 2 speed
Mopar Powerflyte, 2 speed
Ford-a-Matic, 2 speed
Borg-Warner type 35, 2 speed
I think the early GM Hydramatics (before the TH 350) may also have had a rear pump - These were mostly 3 speeds but the GM truck Hydramatic may have been a 4 speed.

the circle track cars run Powerglides I think, I think the push start kit consists of a hub instead of torqueconverter, with an in/out valve, like nuetral, go.
I tihnk , ive seen those in the catalogs.
