Okay...

I'm building a tube buggy and I'm putting a 4.3 chevy engine in it from a complete s-10.
Still need to get it dropped off....

I need some input on after market gauges.

What do you run in your buggy and why?

What gauges..
what brands...
where to find best prices...

I looked at my last rig, and the one before that, at what gauges I had that actually worked, and what I could transplant over and have work.

My fuel gauge read from Enough to Fubar.
My speedo didn't work.
My odo didn't work.
My stock water temp gauge didn't work.
My aftermarket water temp gauge worked, and actually had numbers.
My aftermarket oil pressure gauge worked, and actually had numbers.
My truck didn't have a stock tach; my aftermarket tach sucked.

Because of my DIY fuel tank, I can't run a float-style fuel gauge, so I have a sight tube on the tank.
Because I don't have enough room to run a speedo cable, or a place to put a speedo, I don't have one.
I like having a tach, so I got a new one and found a place for it.
I like knowing if I have oil pressure, so I swiped that one outta my truck, put it in the buggy.
I like knowing what my water temp is doing when I'm sitting on the rev limiter in 6+ feet of snow... so I swiped that one too.

Bottom line, tach, water, and oil. And a sight tube on gas. That's it.
Summit brand gauges on all three... I'm cheap. Not necessarily uber-cheap (I did step up the extra dollar or so for the 270-degree sweep ones) but pretty cheap.

I bought the set and a tach, they swapped out the universal fuel for a Ford one and they all work great (well I don't know about the spedo since it's not hooked up).
By the way they are made by Autometer.

Autometer's have been proven to be accurate and dependable.

I got mine from Jegs High Performance Mail order.
