heres what i got, 67 cj5, 225v6, sm420, is there a t-case that will bolt to it and have a driverside drop. i am putting fullsize ford axles underneath it and i dont want to spend a shit load of $$ on an adapter or an atlas????

Im not sure about jeep transfercases, but I do knwo ford had a divorced transfercase you could use, as well as 86 and back nissans. I dotn know how strong a nissan case would be though.

Im not sure about the pattern on your engine tranny but, possibly a Ford Bronco version D20, or a flipped D300.

i dont think the spline count is the same going from ford to gm. who makes the kit to clock the d300?

I don't think there is any adapter from the SM420 to anything other then a Jeep D300. If you are bent on using the Sm420, you gonna have to flip the D300 or spend the money on a Atlas if you are set on using a drivers drop. I would see if there is some way to use a NP435 and a Bronco D20 that is drivers drop. Or just sell the Ford D60 and put in a Chevy/Dodge D60 and don't deal with all the crap. (I think this the best way) You could sell the Ford D60 and buy a chevy one with some money left over for high steer arms. I was hell bent on using a Ford D60 front with my CJ, and even considerered swapping the tubes so it would be PS drop. The High pinion on the Ford 60 in the front sounds nice and is bling, but I think the Chevy/Dodge one actually works better with a long tranny setup like mine, I think I would have driveshaft clearence issues with mine and the engine bell housing and exhaust. I am still undecided as to what I am finally going to do I have both axles availiable to use.

I think you should put in a T case from a KIA and go IFS up front, so when you go to the mall, you can impress all your friends :flipoff2:

your not allowed to try and trick people yet:rolleyes: better luck next time jduck you had some good stuff going there, i think the flipped 300 is the way to go, or spend big money in adapters and go to a tacoma case

Another option although not the best T-case in the world is a NP 231. You can pick them up cheap as they are common. It might be easyer then flipping a D300.

Also I was wrong there're are adapter for the Dana 20/18's as well. :flipoff2:

Ford also had a married np205 with a driverside drop. I don't know if there are adapters to mate to a 420 though, stock or otherwise. Try advance adapters or whatnot.

Which would be a better case, the Ford np205 or the flipped 300. I know the Ford would be cheaper because you would not have to buy the flip kit but which would be stronger?

i called novak and he said it couldnt be done using a ford 205. he said fords had 32 spline inputs and there were no 420s that had 32s. said the largest 420 was a 31 spline. it looks like a fliped 300 is gonna be the trick. does anyone know who sells the kit?

www.downeastoffroad.com

they sell the flip kit. I just installed one a couple of weeks ago. Simple install, and a VERY complete kit.

Search for TASS and flip kit, he fabbed up his own. After using the DEO kit i can see how fabbing one is possible and not very complicated.

good luck

By the time this guy has bought an adapter, bought a D300, and done the flip kit, he is going to be spending major money.
I also think the Ford NP435/D20 option OR the GM front axle option would be much cheaper.

I really like that first reply about using a divorced t-case. The poster obviously has never looked under a CJ5 to see how much drivetrain space is there.

what all engines were the np435s avilable behind? the only reason i am going the sm420 route is b/c it will bolt up to a chebby 4.3 which is a swap for the near future..

You'll spend more $$$$ on a 300 and the flip kit than you would on an adapter.

I just picked up a Jeep NP208 to use in my YJ.
This type may work for your application
It's a heavy duty case. Drivers side drop, and no slip yoke.
Spline count is 23
