i have an 87 xj with a 4 popper and no cat on it, i was wondering what a good sounding muffler would be for it, i was thinking 40 or 50 series flowmaster? Any info would help out a lot.

40 series "original" Flowmaster would be the loudest and probably sound better. I've run this muffler on a few different trucks. Even ran it on my 2.8 v6 in my DD s-10 for a while (without a cat) and it actually sounded quite good, it had a deep sound and made the truck sound a lot meaner than it actually was. Also run 2 on my 305 in my other s-10 and it sounds really nice. I love these mufflers and have NOT run anything else since discovering them.

you need to swap in a v8 if you want it to sound cool:flipoff2: since i dont think 4 cyls sound very cool, id either get the best expensive, flowing muffler that is on the quiet side, like a borla, or get the loudest most hideously annoying cheap good flowing muff like a cherry bomb or straight pipe!:flipoff2:

Flowmaster 2 stage. Sounds good on 4-popper jeeps. Don't go with glass pack unless you can afford a spark arrestor for the end. This keeps you from being hasseled and ticketed by BLM/USFS during Fire season.

Flowmaster 40 Series is the best.

i'm running a cheap dyno-max from advanced auto on my 4cyl. yj w/no cat, sounds decent flows good too. they're like $30

cherry bombs cost $14 down here!

had a jeep 4.0 with a strait pipe loud as hell, and got no more power without the muffler. id get the cheapest thing with some kind of back pressure. like a thrush

Skip the muffler you will just bash it up on the trail.

40 series Flowmasters sound great..I got one on my truck, my buddy has one on his Subaru and it sounds tite!! That's just my $0.02

Not necessarily, Flowmasters are quite a bit stronger than others and will stand up to rocks, branches, rabid wolves, etc. Besides, not only do heeps sound like shit with no muffler, but they won't pass inspection, attract way more cops, make old people shake their fist, and they lose torque too.

I thought you just put a beer can on the end of the tail pipe for a 4 banger muffler :D :D
