Contemplating on trading my 95 YJ 2.5L for a 86 XJ, unknow engine, unknown axles, i think they come with the 2.5L or 2.8L
should i do it? im gettin more info on the engine/tranny/axles, waiting to hear back from the guy
also what should i look for on it that usually is a problem
since the 4cyl's were carburated back then with the ax-15, could i swap in a 258?

why the hell would you want to trade a good starting platform for something that has damn near all the same parts but much less potential?
The Yj will be much better to build off... and I've never heard of a factory 4cyl with ax-15

so you think an 86 will be more reliable then a 95? Fix the problems with yours, it will be alot cheaper then fixing the crap that came in that XJ (2.8's are giant piles of shit, and the tranny's are weak as well) Also the Yj will make a better all around driver/wheeler.

If it's the 86 the guy has in PA(4.5" lift, 32" bfg AT), then keep your YJ. I know the guy who used to own it.

:barf: 2.8 V6. I had a buddy with an 86 XJ, I wouldn't exactly call it a great DD. Keep the Yuppie Jeep!!!

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad jeep, I just wouldn't trade a YJ for it, or make it a daily driver. It's worth about what he paid for it ~$1300.

That XJ has a 4 cyl, rebuilt AX5, Dana 30/35 open with 3.55 gears. Herculined interior, rock sliders, most of an on board air setup and a couple hundred thousand miles. I think it has a Rusty's suspension (or Rough Country) and 32's. It is a nice trail jeep, pretty reliable, but would be better as a second vehicle, just due to age. I am a good friend of the original owner (the XJ originally came from Nashville), and he put a lot of care into the jeep. In fact, the 32's on it are my old BFG ATs that I had a few years ago.
As stated, your YJ is a 95. Fix it right, or just sell it and get something else. You seem to have lots of trouble with it.
