Hey guys,
I'm looking at a 3/4-ton Ford 4x4.
How can I tell if the front axle is a Dana 50 or Dana 60?
Thanks--

What year? It's most likely a d44.

I agree. The year would help.:smokin:

You guys are assuming that it has the factory front end - I don't want to do that.
How can I tell the difference between the D50 & D60?

Doesn't a d50 have smaller tubes? If you can get the bill of materials number off of the long-side tube and it is a 1978.5 - 1998.5 axle, you can look it up on my web page. It will tell you for sure.

Thanks- I will see if the numbers are there.
Anybody got any other tips that will tell me what the axle is (in case the numbers aren't there)?

like the one guy said the year would help just to see what you are talking about because in the superdutys dana 50s are straight axles, extremly weak but a straight axle and in the older trucks a 50 was a ttb axle so your question is basically a no brainer
