if you were to want to go wheeling in a far away place from where you live, and "could" rent road tires to drive there would you? just wondering if this would be accepted in the wheeling community. i myself dont own a trailer and hate to drive long distance to trails on my TSL's?
why dont you just buy a set.
Tires are not the only reason to trailer. U joints ECT...... I once drove to Colorado only to replace the U joints once I got there. You should have see the locals laughing at me sitting under my rig changing the joints like a pro. When I go to wheel I don't want to have to worry about having to drive the rig home and baby it the whole time I am there. That is why I trailer...

actually i agree and soon will own a trailer. this was just a topic we were talking about on the trail yesterday so i thought i would see what type of responce it would get. i think the liability would be i big deal but i have friends that borrow each other road tires all the time. usually just for a week trip or something. i have seen many a rig driving on the hiway with thier offroad tires on the utility trailer behind thier rig. just thinking about gas mileage as well as wear and tear on the rig, U joints etc etc.

Renting would be too much of a pain in the butt, both for the renter and rentee. Worn but inspectable tires are cheap.

BTW wouldn't it be easier to travel to a trail and rent a set of trail tires there instead of road tires?

I drove to Moab a couple years on my old 35s and put the 39.5s on when I got there. Getting the tires there is a pain, though, unless you drive a PU. I have a trailer now, but the old method was still better than driving on the 39.5s. Not only do the Swampers wear fast, but top speed is around 60 (on a good day), and even then they shake everything apart. The BFGs cruised real nice at 90-95.

i can see it all now....just like the raft or ski rental places. at the head of the major trails the neon signs all competing with each other over tire types and prices......yes id like some 39.5X12.50 TSL-SX and yes ill take the damage waiver for a dollar:eek: oh i can have beadlocks for and extra $20 per tire.......:barf:

CHA-CHING!
Sounds like a hell of a money making plan or is that scheme.
well that what we were thinking but i can see we had it backwards. rent the offroad would be the thing...give you a good excuse to live on your favorite trail.

Renting off-road tires would be cool :D Good way to try different kinds.
