I've got to jiggle the fawk out of the outside door handle for the driver side door to open on my 95 disco. I've sprayed the latch w/ silicon and it makes no difference.
Any ideas on that one?

thats typical with earlier rangies and some discos. you have to dissasemble the door and basically rebuild the mechanism inside. the thing that gets fawked up is actually a GM part, but nobody knows what vehicle it comes from. do you have a shop manual? if not, i think you should definetly get one, it makes every job much easier, and its worth the $100 or so.

Thanks, I've got a Haynes for it but sometimes I think its written in a different language. things like Remove the bonnet seal from the bulkhead then unhook the earth and be sure to chock the tyres
I'll check it out in a little bit

My 96 had the sticky door problem. I used a can of brake clean remove all the built up crud and then a good shot of Tri flow and all is well.
I have the factory disco manual let me know if you need a scan or two.

Old Scout, if you dont mind I'd love to see the factory pics. The haynes pictures leave a little to be desired. I'm in no hurry though, I got a CJ that needs more work than most junkyard vehicles and a Maxima thats windows won't stay up so I'll get my fill of workin on vehicles one way or another

Do you have an E-mail address? The door lock page is 600K in an full size compressed Tiff.

fawk off, :D
My theory is everything has gone down hill for rover since 1959.
My 1959 does in fact have door latches. Of course the right side (passenger side  ) is the only one with a key lock. The 1995 disco is just trying to revert back to the ideal :)
try hosing it with PB baster before you take it apart. Also hose the hinges and anything else that is making its job harder.

I have the same problem with my 98 discovery - the driver door won't open, unless i pull the lock tab up a little bit, then the door opens fine, i thought it might be the actuator motor box, like it wasnt puttin enough force out to push the lock all the way up, but i don't think its the problem, i wd-40 the hell out of the whole thing - any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. my next step is to take apart the whole lock..
Thanks -Erik

The arm that pushes on the actual latch is made of plastic. As it wears, one must readjust the bellcrank/arm assembly the plastic plunger rides upon.
It's no big deal, remove the door panel and look for the arm that reaches from the latch up to near the handle. It will be threaded on the end and have apiece you can turn to adjust.
You'll spend more time taking the door inner panel off than you will adjusting.
BTW-this is covered on an almost weekly basis on Dweb.
If you need parts, let me know. Also, do not fawk with the actual lock cylinder (where you put the key in <easy Merv>). The plastic parts that actuate the locking mechansim become brittle over time and will explode upon contact.
Now, for my obligatory "While you're in there" comment lubricate everything that looks like it's supposed to move with white lube. The metal parts become corroded and get stiff. When this happens, the drag on those aforementioned plastic pieces becomes greater and they break and you're fawked. A Q-tip works well as an applicator for the grease.
Peace,
Paul
