I've would like to build some RC D60 axles for my FJ40 and have some questions:

Axle needs to be narrowed down to 62" WMS to WMS, pumkin moved to the passenger side, and be able to run 35 spline outer axles and be a 6 lug.

The rear axle will need disk brakes. Also, I want to be able to purchase the disk brake rotors/calipers/outer axle, hubs from any vendor. This means that it would not be so custom where I have to buy from them only.


1. Have you had any experiences with Dynatrac, Sunray Engineering, or Currie?
Good, bad, price, service?

2. Are there any other custom axle builders that is a good as Dynatrac? I like how their axles are new, but very expensive.

Dynatrac, Sunray and Currie are all well-established shops and each provides a very good product. They are, however, very expensive.

A less expensive alternative is to buy salvage yard units, do the housing work either by yourself or by an independent machine shop and have the axles made by either Dutchman or Moser. You would then need to buy all of the outer components (rotors, bearings, etc.).

I am currently building a pair of standard D60s using the latter approach. Mine will be considerably less expensive than a Curry or Dynatrack, but I doubt that they will end up being less than half of the price of the "big names".

Any other shops? Come AWN, need some feedback.

I had a machine shop cut down my axles, then Moser build me 35 spline 6 lug axles for the rear, had big Ford bearing ends installed on the axle and then used the TSM rear brake kit which uses all GM parts.

The front end, I had the same shop cut down and re tube, then had Warn make the axles. Bought all new bearings and rotors, and the rest was standard junk yard outer axle parts.

After all was said and done, I spent about $2000 on the front, and $1600 on the rear.

Thanks for the info.. Your price is VERY resonable compared to Dynatrac, Currie, or Sunray. I can't touch a front RC D60 axle for less than 4,000.00.

I'll contact some machine shops and see if they can do the same..

Is there such a thing as an eight lug disc brake front Dana60 and if so what did it come out in? I'm looking for a mate for my Dana 70 rear.

Sure thing, Chevy 1 tons from like 75 or so til like 91 had them, Fords, and Dodge 1 tons still run them up front.
