plan on spending between 1500 and 2000... get the widest you can, 7000lb rated includes the weight of the trailer too so if your rig weighs 5000 and the trailer 2000 your at the max.... not that its a prob but youll be pushing the bearings and such... if you go with 10,000lb you wont have to worry bout the bearings as much...

I agree with getting a heavier GVW. Land Cruisers are :fj:. (Funny! I just realized that the pig smilie is named after your wheeler! :flipoff2:) Plus, with the 10,000 rating, you get brakes on both axles. You would most likely have to special order a 7000# that way.

BTW, I built my own trailer. Only rated at 6000#, but it does the job, for very little money.

BTW keep in mind that if you get a trailer with a CVWR rating of 10001 or more you will have to have class A lic. to pull it in all states?:D :D :D

almost true:D we use heavy trailers at work 12,000 rated but the weight plate say 9.998 small bs trick but it has bigger axles and brakes(but you have to watch the weight of the towed items) works well with equipment and cars. also would look for a long toungue buddy at work race trailer has an extended tongue then he bolted on one of those big retangular toolboxes great for putting stuff. also want ramps that fold down and are attached to the trailer some trailer have ramps that sit in a channel at the rear of the trailer when wet or muddy tires start to slide can kicked ramps out. go to the local rental co and ask if they have any for sell.

sloan btw where in ca are you? buddy up north on hwy 101 sells are kinds of trailers.

Go big Ken. 6000 lbs & up. Brakes on both axles & a 2 5/16" ball.

I also recommend a load distribution type class IV hitch & sway controller.

Does it have to be a bumper pull??? Why not a gooseneck? They are rated higher, don't have the nasty towing habits of a bumper pull (i.e. trailer sway), and alot easier to back up let alone pull through heavy traffic.

So cal is a great place to buy trailers. I just bought an Aztex trailer from the manufacturer in Fontana. Go there and to some of the other places down there and start negotiating, you will find that you can talk them down a good amount. Make sure you get a wrpa around tongue if you go with aztex because they are made with angle iron and are really floppy otherwise.
