5 of us made it out on sun to try rock alley in the snow ( about 3" ). There was Welby, Flatbed, Launch_it , Digger ridding with Darren, and Me.

Digger and Darren cam away with no damage :flipoff2: or they didn't tell anybody they broke something.

Welby, blew his right front tire off the bead tring to make it up the large ditch. He hit the side with a little too much speed. I came to the rescue with the CO2 tank.( edit ) Thanks Welby, I forgot you said you bent your drag link.

Launch_it, got a hole in the side wall on the left front tire and got mud packed in the bead of the f&r rights side tires in the large ditch also. He can tell you the new technique to help remove the frozen mud.

Flatbed, had the hardest day. First he broke the left side mirror on the tree stump coming up the first hill. Then he also blew the bead on the right front doing the same thing Welby was doing. Then on the way out to the road a tree jumped out onto the trail and hit his truck. It took out the left fender, fender flare, head light, marker light, bumper end cap, bent the front bumper, and dented the hood.

I only took off the left front bumper end cap.

here's a link to some of the pic's Digger took. Welby has some pic's also

http://www.geocities.com/inthemud85/rockalleydec30.html

The tan flatbed truck is Darren's, the blue xrta cab is Launch_it's , the Jeep is Welby's, the grey flatbed is Flatbed's, and the grey 4runner is mine.

Little bit... I have to hose the mud off and check the drag link to see how much it's bent. Kind of hard to tell right now, and waaaayy to cold to give a sheeot :D

flimmy
12-31-2001, 04:38 PM
Welby, you did make that part look easy :D . It did take me alittle bit of time to get over them ,but I was tring different lines that I've never done before. It was so tempting to just gas the shiot out of it and Launch_it over the rocks:D .

Digger

geocities sucks ass... I'm not payin for more data transfer, the site is only half full now. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I had a blast yesterday even if I was only a photo guy and cable dragger. Everyone did great concidering the conditions and even the trail fixes went smoothly (although one fix was a PISS poor attempt, it DID work):D

Don't let them bother ya too much Welby, I'd ride shotgun with ya anyday. (of course, since my truck is still not running, I'd ride shotgun with anyone else also.)

I think next time we should try it up Rock Alley, in the snow, BACKWARDS :smokin:

Digger
12-31-2001, 06:33 PM
I'll go again, whenever we can make it there.

I gotta get some things cleaned out of the garage and get to fixin that timing chain or maybe I can talk Darren into letting me drive his ride. :p

Frank,it's in Connellsville,PA. It's about 15min north of Uniontown,Pa. I live in Scottdale which is 10 min north of c-ville. There is about 10 mi. or more of trails ? at least it's 10 miles by road from were you go in at and were you come out.

The trails are good you can make alot of the stuff without a locker but you have to give it hell sometimes. I have the rear welded, Flatbed is open/open, Welby has a L/S in the rear, Launch_it is locked in the rear, and so is Darren.

There is a place to camp at the bottom of the mountain near the begining of the trail. If you come up this summer we'll be glad to take you there. If you want to come up and wheel in the snow, or sooner than this summer, there's a good motel close and we can go. Just let us know 2-3 weeks in advance. There's acouple of guys from Frederick,MD that have been up about 3 times and I know they'll be up again. You can always try to come up one of those weekends.

One thing I forgot to mention is the first 50-100 ft of the the trail, going up the first hill was all ice. I didn't even notice it but everyone else did :D

Flatbed

Hey guys it was blast! Hey I just added a little character to my rig  . It was a PISSER to blow the beads, Launches fix was a hell of lot easier than chiseling frozen clay for 20 minutes. BTW launch, you may want to warn the tire what he's in for when he takes off that tire  . Sucked to have all carnage after the hard parts. Flimmy, the reason you didn't notice the ice was because as lead you had the snow :flipoff2: That was some fun slippery sh@t though. Looking forward to doing it again ( uh, with out the fawkin tree this time :D ) after I make some minor repairs  :flipoff2: . BTW thanks for pulling my flare out of the tree Digger:D

It was brought to my attention that I forgot  to tell you how I broke the end cap off the bumper. Well I was going up the ditch were the log is and went too far :D . I was told by Digger to stop, he was spotting and takin the pic's, and I just has to go alittle farther :D . O'well I need an excuse to build a new front bumper anyway :D , even though it didn't damage the bumper. btw the right side end cap was already broken off.

I went through 5 BFG's last year, 4 side wall rips, one huge hole in the tread area.

I run TSL's now, and and have 5 mounted BFG's as spares,,, and will probable need all just to get back to the trail head...

Belly, you should of told me were the party was. I would of brought the dig video cam. I need the excuse to buy the ilink so I can down load some video's. :D

The parts I broke still enabled me to continue without any problems :D . But next time I'll try harder. Maybe I can take out the front valance panel ? or a mirror ?

hey... can any of youze guys use a preimeir high output alternator... I can get one for about $400. It's the Premier GM 160 amp model. cost $500 before shipping new and this one is basically new. If you do then Ill end up with a Premier welder unit for a fair price. Ill have to wait to find me the right alternator. (GM is wrong model wont fit the TJ)

Let me know.

85TrailToy, yes it's near the cave and yes it's still open. We were about 1/4 mile from the cave when we were headed out to the road at the end of the day. Creek Falls is not far, about 15 min. There's alot of trails there too.
