: TSL troubles?

i just noticed afew days ago, that the d/side rear TSL is cracking or splitting straight down the middle. tread blocks and all. not too deep to be seriously worried, just splitting slightly. i think the psi is around 30, and the rear axle is spooled(an '87 zuk BTW).

is this normal at all? should i be worried?

What does your tread ware look like? I typically run about 22 - 25 psi on the street with good results. Why not try taking a few pounds out.

that's what i am going to do anyways. i was just wondering if there was someone out there who has run them for longer that might know more than me. does the spool have anything to do with this you think?

I dont think the spool has much to do with it, but who knows really. I would think that it is a maufacturer's mistake. Can you take a photo?

isn't tread separation a sign of the belts getting screwed up?

a guy from another forum told me that alot of wheeling on ice/rocks and such can quickly cut through the rubber.... if this is true, i do alot of ice/snow/rock driving.....

anyone know about this?

On the set of sx's I had that happened to me it split about 1-1/2"
in from the edge and about 1/3 around the tire it went through the treadblocks and into the carcass fo the tire. I'm not quite sure where it happened during the wheeling trip we had gone through some mud a lot of water crossing with rocks and some chunked up pavement piles that resembled mini-mountains about 6' tall.
I ended up putting a tube in that tire and never had a problem out of it. I did keep an eye on that tire though and it stayed on the front left of the jeep only pavement time it seen after the slice was driving to the gas staion about 4 blocks away not much over 20mph.

Be careful with the tube idea if you drive on the street a lot. The tube will rub against the inner liner of the tire and can blow out. While I have never seen this happen I have heard it from most of the training sessions I have been to from several major tire companies.

make sure it is just not from your trimmed fenders or maybe you dont have any. but my brother in laws tsl did the same thing by splittin down the middle, but his started when he flexed his shit out and his cut fenders started a gash in the center and they just split from there. i just woke up from a after work nap so this might not make sense.

stipeshirtman---by chance, are you running them with bb's or golf balls?

What would bb's or golf balls have to do with it?
Just wondering cause I had bb's in a tire that a belt seperated on my radials, but I think it was that way when I bought them.

no bb's....no golf balls...

the way they are right now as we speak... 33x12.5x15 Bias ply TSL...@ about 25psi..... sitting on a spooled axle in the rear....

it's not that bad... just wondering if this has happened to alot of people, and whether to worry or not.....

i'm gonna wheel it til it blows up! i'm not buyin tires for awhile!:flipoff2:

I had some problems last spring with a new 36 tsl. In less than 400 miles it broke apart to nothing on the inside of my Jeep. locked 44. I put the spare on the same side and it wore fine. I called Interco. The wanted to know nothing. I calle the place I bought it from(no name) and they siad send it back( I pay shipping) no problem. They said when they reached a certain number of #s of return tires they would send them to Interco to be looked at. Shipping would be split between everone to send the tires to Interco. Then if the tire was bad I would have to pay for shipping back to myself. Fuck that........ for one tire. I bought a set of Krawlers and stick swampers up Interco ass and the company I bought it from.

I know the boggers from a few years ago all had that prob, the carcass would split directly down the middle. I havent heard of it happening on the tsls but it would stand to reason that it would. I believe the cause was the way interco manufactured the tires then and have since changed. Are the tires a few years old or are they new?

I got my SX's from a guy that were damaged exactly that way. They came off his toyota with trimmed fenders.

Everyone looks at the slice funny, but in 3 years, including a 400+ 70mph trip home, I haven't had an issue with it.

I also only run around 15-17psi on the street... 30psi? you should check out the max pressure rating on those tires... they probably say 26psi or less. ;)

I remember seeing alot of boggers like that too. Never seen a TSL do it though.
