Tell me what you think of the arms. I have one of them all the way done, other then it needs powdercoating. I just need to get some pictures.
siebert 02-14-2004, 07:25 AM I think you could add alot of strength to it by adding a gusset to tie the plate into the top side of that arm. Cut out a triangle and place the bottom on the top side of the arm and the upright going up the plate and weld it on.
If you wanted to get fancy, you could make an upsidedown 'L' shape gusset and use the leg of the L as the mount for the rod end to replace the top of the mount that you have there.
I would feel pretty confident with a steering system like that. Loods good.
Blazr77400 02-14-2004, 02:44 PM Here is a picture of my prototype arm that has the gusset. On the steel arms I only used a 3/8's plate because I Felt the welds would still be weaker then the amount of material the plate has. I had a friend of mine tig weld everything. He made 3 passes per weld so it should be plenty strong.
Blazr77400 02-15-2004, 09:51 PM Here is a finished arm. The arm that bolts to the stock two bolts is 1.5" thick. The main plate is 3/4" thick. The Heim mounts and brace are 3/8" thick. Now All I need for my steering is Stations Hydro. "Should" be here this week.:smokin:

BJ On Roids 02-16-2004, 05:10 PM Wouldnt the portals provide a lot of leverage on a set of leafs?
Out of curiosity, although the idea could be used for high steer on coil setups still!
The Rockslut 02-16-2004, 06:12 PM How much are you selling those for? :D

Same amount of leverage as on a coil suspension:flipoff2:
I could probably make the plate a little taller, add another gusset and you could put the heim mounts higher. You could also add some more brackets in between the arm and the wheel.

I haven't decided if I want to start selling them or not. If I do, They will probably be available through Killeraxles.com. We were talking about doing it, but he wanted to see the finished arms. Hopefully he likes them. :D
On my arms, The ackerman angle is okay. If you wanted the ackerman to be perfect there is a couple of ways to adjust it. Lengthen the wheelbase till they match up:smokin: Or you could make the plate spacers shorter, and make the arm longer to move the plate out farther. Or you could make the hiem mounts shorter. These are adjusted alot easier then most other arms.
They look pretty good.

Blazr77400 02-19-2004, 01:52 AM Thanks Weps.
I offered some suggestions on your highsteer arms, do you have any good or bad suggestions on mine?
Blazr77400 03-25-2004, 02:56 AM I finally got the steering done on the front.
Blazr77400 03-25-2004, 02:57 AM I got the cylinder and Orbitrol valve from Sean(Station). I made the clevis ends, cylinder clamps, and mini tierods. I also made the Cylinder mount/traction bar mount. Just need to make the traction bar now.
Blazr77400 03-25-2004, 03:01 AM Here is a close up of the arm.
I ended up with a 9.5" stroke cylinder.
My 131" wheel base truck with 42's, will now turn as sharp as my Jimmy, I think its wheelbase is around 114", and it also had the stock tires on it.
I also have 1 finger steering. Just driving it up and down the parking lot, I love the feel of it. I ended up with 4 turns lock to lock but, it still feels like stock with extra travel.
Blazr77400 05-28-2004, 01:34 AM Here is a cleaned up pic of the front end.
Blazr77400 05-28-2004, 01:37 AM Here is a pic of how I locked out the rear steer for street use. I still need to get the cylinder and valve. After I hook up the cylinder, I will swap the bolts, that are holding the lockouts on, with some push pins. The rear arms are exactly the same other then it has one more hole for the lockout.

His steering is quite simply the best quality, best looking, and the best price.
He may not answer the phone right away, but leave a message and then keep calling him.
