my friend just picked up an 88 chevy, 4 door, utility bed 4x4... i know its got the 14 bolt.. but he wasnt sure what was up front..
its gotta be one-ton cuz he said he had to get special plates for it cuz it was so big... so is it a 60 up front? this thing is more stock than i have ever seen.. manual windows, locks, and it doesnt even have a inside light when u open the door.. i guess some old lady had it, and its got 120K on it.. but its only got a 350 in it..

anyways... any info would be great, thanx

I thought newbie tech was supposed to be free from BS answers
there is no 12 or 14 bolt front dif

if it is the old body style 1 ton then it is most likely a 60

A 350 seems kinda small for a 1 ton; I'm guessing the 14b is a ff and not a sf? There are some 3/4 ton 14bff, that's the only reason I ask.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't 88 ifs? I am not sure but I swear my buddys old truck was an 88 and it had ifs, although it was a half ton.

one tons, and crew cabs in particular, stayed old style for a fair bit after the 1/2 ton stuff went IFS
92 is ringing a bell but I am not positive on the year split when the big stuff went IFS

yea wasnt 88 the year for the new body styles? he got a good price for it, in fact we are gonna put a rancho 4" lift on it today or tomorrow i think

FF. A SF is almost flush with the mounting surface of the wheel, while FF axles stick out another 4" or so. Man $3k for that truck is a great deal.
