Just swapped my 38's for some 42's, and the wheels don't want to seal off when bolted back together. Are the 42's thicker keeping the wheels from sealing, this is what it seems like? Anyone run into this problem before? Solution??

i needed new o rings when i mounted the tires to my hummers as well as 100 ft/lbs of torque on the nuts to stop the air leaks but i have 38/15.5-16.5 ssr's.

I either used new o-rings or cleaned the surface of the rim and o-ring better. I also put oil on the bolts so they tightened down easier and tighter.

I'm running 42s, stock hummer rims, cut down mag run flats, and new o-rings - no leaks.

I just mounted two 42" TSLs on thursday, and two tonight. I'm using stock hummer wheels with civilian rubber runfalts and o-rings that came with the wheels. I was able to mount each one in about 5-10 minutes with no problems. I aired them up to 25psi tonight, and I'll check them to see how they hold air.

The reccomended torque I believe is 115lbs on the bolts.

I`ve taken mine up to 120 to stop all air leaks :)

My 42s did leak more than the 38.5" SXs I have now though... just drive it for a bit and check the bolts... after a few times it should stop leaking.. if not remount them and try again :D

look in general 4x4 about 38.5s and similar issues...might be the beads are too thick...search my friend search...

I am feeling generous...:flipoff2: actually something similar happened to me and it was easier to link this thread rather than type it out again.

So, since these are not new, and I can't go back to where I got them, what are my options? How do I need to trim the bead so the rims will properly seat together?

It says what we had to do to my 39.5s right in the linked thread.

trim the inner bead surface so the bead is effectively thinner...if that is the cause of your problem.

He used a regular 4.5" grinder

Try to get the two piece rubber ones.

I bought mine off another guy and ended up with two two-piece ones, and one one-piece one.

The one piece one sucks compared to the two piece. They're bigger, thicker, and heavier so it's harder to get them inside the tire. You have to line up the valve stem groove as you place the tire on the wheel which is more of a PITA. Also, when I was trying to fill it up with air, I'd fill it up for afew seconds, then it would max it out. Then after a minute or two, I'd put more air in it, same thing.

I guess the air has to equalize inside or somthing, maybe the larger runflat was causing just the front part of the tire to inflate or somthing?

My suggestion is take the tire apart put some dish soap on the tire beads. this will get it to slip together better without binding so the nuts pull down on the stud easyer and seats the beadlock down on the oring. You can soap or greese the oring too.

Used tire mounting lube on my 39.5's (bead and o-ring) with a pvc ring and 115 ft. lbs on the bolts. No leaks.

Dean...

Not sure if you are referring to that as a solution to what happened to me or not...but it was very obvious, that one of the tires had "unfinished" beads, still had molding nubs directly on the bead and the bead was obviously thicker than the other three. Interco told the dealer that "oh sometimes the tires leave our factory with the beads being 'finished'..." Obviously this wouldn't be an issue on a tire that wasn't mounted on an iternal beadlock wheel......Interco said I was the first to complain about it...woo hoo!
