Is it possible to make a GM power steering pump into a remote resivor pump? I want to use a Deisle power steering pump on my truck, and would like to use a larger resivor, and wondering if I will need to make something funky. Or can I just get two hose end fittings, and do the modication.
Thanks

My '83 diesel PS pump came with an external resivior, connected by a hose. I noticed last week my buddies '77 C30 dually 454 had a similar setup. My guess is it's a hydroboost thing, not sure what all the remote resivoirs came on, though.

Just plumb it in off the return line but make sure it is below the "full line" of your resivour. A cooler is a better way to add volumn.

I think allpro's hydro assist uses a tweaked chevy R.R. pump..maybe they tell you a part# or application .or Howe

guess I was wrong about that allpro bracket..it's just for the Howe pump...

My 85 hydro-boost system does not have the external reservoir. I do have a small stacked plate tranny cooler for extra volume and the diesel hydro-boost pump (extra return barb) has a larger reservoir than the non-hydro pumps. I had to do some serious grinding to get that diesel pump into my 350 brackets. It was too deep and too wide requiring modification of brackets and reservoir in order to keep the pulley lined up. I'm ok with that setup for now but I would like to add an external reservoir if/when I add hydro-assist.

My 2000 Chevy 1-ton has a hydroboost with a standard pump. My 1972 GMS 402 BBC has a remote resivoir pump with no hydroboost. I think you can use either one with a hydroboost.
